Sixty-one stitches, more bruises than I can count, and two bruised ribs are what those assholes did to Jaxon. The Doc tried his best to keep the pain tolerable for Jaxon, but there was just too much to do. He gave him a light sedative when he was done, and Jaxon’s been asleep ever since. I’ve stayed awake watching over him and waiting to hear from Blaze or Kane.

I hear voices downstairs and carefully slide from the bed. When I get downstairs, Kane is having a serious conversation with Blaze. I watch Blaze struggle to accept what Kane’s saying, and then he nods before heading for the stairs. He kisses me hard on the lips and goes toward Kane’s room. Kane pulls me into his arms and buries his face in my neck.

“How is he?”

“He’ll be okay, just a lot of healing. You need to go be with him, Kane.”

“I can’t right now.”

I pull back to look at his face. “Why?”

“Because I’m still pissed at him. I need to come to terms with that first. I’m relieved he’s okay, but that’s all I can do.”

“Kane—”

“That’s enough,Dragotsennyy.”

I sigh and pull away from him. “Tell me what happened.”

Kane grabs my hand and pulls me into the living room. He sits on the couch and jerks me to sit on his lap. I wrap my arms around his neck, needing to make him feel better the best way that I know how. “Lev has gone deep underground. We can’t find him anywhere.” Kane closes his eyes and lays his head back. “I have to get him. It will eat me alive until I do. I might be pissed at Jaxon, but he’s stillmine.Lev crossed a line.”

“Why does Blaze keep saying it's his fault?”

“That killing spree he went on?” I nod. “That blood was from Lev’s men.”

“You have to convince him that it isn’t.”

“It is, though,Dragotsennyy. Blaze has never been this out of control before. He’s never lost his memories or been so deep in his mind that he believes the voices.”

“He’s never had his heart broken like this before, Kane. Finding out Jaxon betrayed you guys broke something in him, and I think Jaxon is the only one who can fix it.”

“I know, but I’m not sure how he’s supposed to do that.” Kane kisses my forehead and pulls me to lay against his chest. “We have to take this one day at a time.”

“Are you making Jaxon go back to Diego’s?” A sick feeling settles in my stomach when Kane’s eyes open, and he gives me that look that leaves no room for arguments. “You can’t do that to him. You said you were going to go get him.”

“That was on my terms, Eli. I was forced to face him like this.”

I push off his lap, ignoring his warning look. “If you truly believed that, you would have never gone to save him. I know you’re hurt too, and so was I, but he truly regrets what he did. He took a hell of a beating for you, and you know what he gave Lev?” I don’t wait for an answer. “Nothing. He knows more than you think, and he didn’t tell Lev a goddamn thing. The only thing he gave the cops was your location and some bullshit to keep them off his back.”

“How do you know about Lev?”

“Because the last thing he said to me before he passed out was he would never betray you again. Do with that what you will. I’m going to go be with him and Blaze. You can sit down here and scowl at nothing or come to be with us. The choice is yours.”

I march upstairs before I lose my nerve. When I push into the room, I stop to take in the scene in front of me. Blaze is lying by Jaxon’s side, running his fingers through Jaxon’s curly hair. I start backing out of the room but stop when I hear Blaze talk.

“Sweetheart, come lay with us.”

I climb onto the bed on Jaxon’s other side and lay my hand on Jaxon’s stomach. “Are you okay?”

“They stopped talking.” Blaze swallows, and his eyes meet mine. “They stopped talking as soon as I had him in my arms.”

“What have they been saying?”

Blaze shakes his head and scoots closer to Jaxon. He grabs my hand and kisses my knuckles. “We’ll talk about it later, Sweetheart. We need to sleep.”

“I love you, Blaze.”

“I love you too.”
