“Thank you for telling me,” he replied quietly. “I know that couldn’t have been easy.”

I laughed harshly, my throat dry. “Not at all, but I’m glad I did.”

He smiled softly. I couldn’t quite make out all the emotions swirling through his gold eyes, but they seemed positive, and there was no fear or hatred in his scent, so I allowed myself to relax.

Jett pushed himself up to his knees on the bed, cupped both my cheeks, and kissed me. I was so startled, I didn’t move for a good long moment before I finally came back to myself and returned it. I gripped the back of his head and held him in place as I took over.

When we finally pulled apart, we were both breathless. Jett watched me with glazed over eyes, his lips swollen and spit slicked. Gods. I squeezed my erection through the towel.

“I guess that means you don’t want me to leave?” I asked with a laugh.

Jett snorted. “Yeah, no. I don’t want you to go anywhere.” He turned to me, once again serious. “That changed nothing for me, Emerson. If anything, it just makes me want you more. I hurt for you, knowing how much anguish you went through for all those years. I know you’re still questioning if you’re a monster. I will do everything I can to prove to you how far from one you really are. And . . . I know this isn’t my call, but I support you if you decide to try and find Lennon.”

I smiled, the weight off my shoulders immense. I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do about Lennon, but that didn’t matter right now. As much as I regretted it, I waited 25 years to do anything about that situation, but my mate was right here and I hadn’t nearly fixed all the damage I had done. My focus was on rectifying that. I tilted Jett’s head up, ready to continue with that kiss and hopefully more, when a throat cleared from somewhere behind the door. I looked at Jett, amused. The calvary was here.

Just then, the door rattled as a fist slammed against it. “Merry Christmas!” Lyric’s cheerful voice shouted.

I narrowed my eyes at the door. No way was that Lyric banging on it.

My questions were answered immediately when Orion added his two cents. “Rise and shine. We’ve waited long enough, but I don’t have any more patience left. It’s time for breakfast with the family.”

I sighed and buried my face into the nape of my omega’s neck, breathing in his scent. The little brat giggled and played with my hair.

“Come on, alpha, it’s Christmas. I’ve never had a real Christmas morning before. My omega father would do something small in our room, but my aunt never approved.”

Well, that was enough to get me to relent. My mate deserved the full experience.

I could still sense the two men on the other side of the door, plus Lyric was snickering. “I left you some clothes outside the room, alpha,” the omega told me.

“Thank you,” I said through the shut door. “We’ll be out in a few minutes.

“If you’re not out in ten, I coming in!” Orion shouted threateningly before finally walking away.

My eyes glinted with mischief as I devoured my omega with a look. I stopped on his very erect penis that was obvious through the thin pajama pants. “Ten minutes, let’s see what we can do with that time.”

Jett’s whole body arched as I pushed him onto the bed and straddled him.

CHAPTER20

Jett

It wasthe smells that hit me first. French toast, bacon, and other sweet and savory aromas permeated the house as I walked hand and hand out of my room with Emerson. I jumped a little on the balls of my feet. “Goddess, it smells so good.”

Emerson smiled fondly down at me. “It really does. I haven’t had a real Christmas breakfast in years.” His eyes got a little sad, and I knew he was talking about his family.

When he started to tell me about his past, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I certainly didn’t think he would tell me as much as he did. As overwhelming as it was, I was honored that he wanted to share so much of it, especially the memories that were shrouded in darkness and pain. Now, I knew he was thinking about Christmases when he was younger, before his brother was murdered and his father was lost to his grief. I squeezed his hand.

“Well then, let’s go before Orion eats it all.”

“I heard that!” my brother called from the . . . den? We weren’t eating in the dining room? I shrugged and followed the noise and scents over to the room we typically spent most of our time in.

My feet stopped moving on their own when I reached the entryway. Yesterday, the den was set up to look like a cocktail room from a fancy hall. All our furniture had been moved, and in its place had been high bar-style tables and trays of food.

That was all gone now, and it was back to looking like our most lived-in space, with one noticeable addition: the massive, colorfully decorated Christmas tree in the corner. Underneath it was loaded with presents. When did all of this get here? Who even did all this this?

I was still staring in amazement as Lyric bounded over to me and hugged me so tightly, the air whooshed out of my lungs. “Sorry! I’m just so excited that you two finally worked things out. And on Christmas too! It’s like another present. Plus, this is my first one with Orion, and the whole family will be here later! And—”

“Easy, kitten. Let Jett breathe.” Orion walked over to us and dragged Lyric back by wrapping his arms around him affectionately and playfully nipping at his mating mark.
