“I’m just along for the ride,” Wesley said. “This is Jasmine’s ordeal.”

“He’s kidding,” Jasmine said. “He was the one that hid all the Easter eggs this morning even though Cori isn’t walking yet to find them.”

“They carried her around the house where they were,” Ivy said. “Wasn’t that sweet? Remember some of the Easter egg hunts we had?”

Dahlia laughed. “Some of the places we lived weren’t big enough to hide a dozen of eggs and then there were five of us.”

“My father said everyone was only allowed to find two to three eggs. No more.”

“Sounds fair,” Brooks said.

“My parents tried to be fair,” Jasmine said. “My mother had plastic eggs for us. Eggs weren’t always easy to come by. So we didn’t get a chance to decorate them either.”

“We did at Grandma and Grandpa’s that one year,” Ivy said. “That was fun.”

“I’m sorry,” he said.

“Don’t be,” she said. “We got by. As Jasmine said. My mother was fair. I don’t think my father was, but my sisters are always going to argue that with me.”

“Ivy remembers things differently than we do,” Dahlia said.

“I think that is just common,” he said. “I’m sure my siblings remember stuff differently than I did.”

“Everyone does,” she said. “But they most likely remember the important things.”

“Always,” he said. “Family is more important than money or what someone gets on the holidays.”

“That’s right,” Jasmine said. “So though we are all in different positions in our lives now, it doesn’t mean we forget the core values, right, Ivy?”

“Right,” she said. “Let’s get the wine.”

“Guess Ivy is done talking about this,” Dahlia said. “But I could use a glass of wine too.”

“Can I get you wine or beer?” Wesley asked Brooks.

“Beer works,” he said.

Ivy appreciated that he was almost trying to defend her to her sisters. No one had ever done that for her before.

She knew she wasn’t supposed to fall in love with Brooks, but she realized that her heart was long gone in love with the big rough man that didn’t want to open himself up to her.

She’d just have to see if she could work on him more.

Phone Sex

Brooks opened the door to Ivy a few days later. They didn’t normally get to spend that much time during the week together, but she’d texted to hint she was horny and wanted to know if she could come over after work.

He’d be stupid to tell her no.

“Hey there, sexy,” she said, leaning up and giving him a big kiss. “How much fun are you ready to have today?’

Oh boy. Here they went again.

As much as he loved that she liked to have fun with sex there was another part of him that hoped it wasn’t something that made him feel old.

Not that he thought thirty-six was old, but to Ivy it might be.
