“Hey,” I protested. “I can’t help it that I need to figure things out for myself instead of having someone tell me what to do.”

“That’s also just being stubborn,” Throttle chuckled.

I lifted my middle finger at him. “You were doing so good a minute ago. Don’t ruin it by letting the jerk out of your mouth.” That sounded weird, but it made sense to me. “Or whatever.”

Throttle tipped his head to the side. “Uh, okay?”

“We do need to head to Texarkana to get clothes and stuff. We packed for two nights, not weeks,” Sloane pointed out.

“We can go while you guys are in church,” I suggested.

Throttle closed his eyes and held up his hand. “I’m going to let you think about that and the reason why you need to stay at the clubhouse, doll.”

I opened my mouth but instantly closed it.

“You get it?” he chuckled.

I rolled my eyes, but I got it. If Sloane and I needed to stay at the clubhouse to stay safe, we couldn’t exactly go gallivanting back-and-forth between home and the clubhouse on our own. “Do you think someone could take us to get some things before church?”

Throttle tapped his nose. “I knew you would get there, doll.”

I folded my arms over my chest and let out a huff.

“It’s going to have to wait until after church,” Aero argued. “If we take off while Yarder is knocked out, he’s going to be pissed when he wakes up.”

“I’m fucking awake.” Yarder stood in the hallway opening and scratched his stomach. “I can’t fucking sleep not knowing what the hell is going on. And where the hell do you think you guys are going?” he demanded.

“The girls need some clothes and shit,” Aero explained. “We were thinking we could go before church since you and Compass were passed out.”

“I wish I were fucking passed out,” Yarder growled. “You girls wait and go after church. Then I might be able to sleep.”

“Fine,” Sloane called. “I’m going to shower while you guys do your church thing.”

“I’m good with that as long as we get there sometime today.” See, Sloane and I were totally easy if we were talked to like people, and not just ordered around.

“You want me to go wake up Compass?” Throttle asked.

Yarder shook his head. “He’s already in church. Fucker couldn’t sleep either. He was on the phone with his cousin the last I saw him.”

I tentatively raised my hand. “You guys wouldn’t, by chance, have some spectator seats in church, would you?”

Yarder cut me with a glare. “Church is for members only, sweetheart.”

Hmph, I wasn’t a fan of being called sweetheart. My phone rang, and I pulled it out to see my dad’s phone number.

My shoulders dropped, and I let out a deep sigh.

“Looks like you got a phone call you need to take anyway, doll.” Throttle glanced at my phone. “Say hi to your dad for us.”

Oh lord. Only if Throttle knew how much my dad would like to talk to the Iron Fiends.

Everyone headed down the hallway with Sloane trailing behind. “I’ll be in my room. Come find me when you’re done with your call.”

I nodded and connected the call. I pressed my phone to my ear and took a deep breath. “Hello?”

“You wanna tell me what the hell is going on, Dove? If I had known you were going to be in danger, I never would have sent you into that hellhole.”

“Good morning to you, too, Dad.” I headed out the front door with a glance over my shoulder to make sure no one was around and sat on a bench to the right of the door.
