Throttle and I were standing next to the van, our hands joined like some circus sideshow that was shocking.

And it felt right.

I don’t know how we did it, but we skipped over the awkward stage of hooking up and jumped right into being together.

“You bikers sure do move fast,” Garett muttered. “Five days ago, Sloane and Aero weren’t even engaged, and now we’re on the way to some mountain town over nine hundred miles away so they can elope, and you two are completely mind-blowing.” He motioned to me and Throttle. “You couldn’t stand each other, and now you’re a we. You are now awe,” he repeated. “How does that even happen? One night in a roach motel, and awewalks out.”

“Does this make sense to anyone?” Throttle asked.

I patted Throttle’s shoulder. “I think Garett is having a hard time wrapping his head around you and me.”

“I think he’s just surprised at how quickly it happened,” Max, the boom operator, specified. “You two actually make sense. We all figured it was going to take at least a season or two before you figured it out. Adalee thought you guys would be like Romeo and Juliet, seeing as who Dove’s dad is. The Iron Fiends against the Finley’s like the Capulets against the Montagues.”

Throttle tipped his head to the side. “Dove’s dad?” he asked. “What the hell are you talking about?”

How did Adalee and the crew know about my dad? “You guys have never met my dad.”

“I know,” Adalee laughed. “All it took was a Google search to find out who your dad is, Dove. It’s going to be an amazing storyline when he finds out about you two.”

Whoa.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

I didn’t care about my dad knowing about Throttle and me. I had a problem with the reality show knowing. For years, I had worked to separate myself from my dad and have my own life, and now, with the show knowing, I could be thrust back into the political life.

And I’m sure the club didn’t want it to be known either seeing how there was a shitstorm brewing over the club thanks to my dad.

No, thank you.

“We’re gonna need you to forget about who Dove’s dad is,” Aero called. “That shit doesn’t go in the show.”

Adalee glanced at Garett. “Uh, well, you might need to talk to the producers because I’ve already told them. They were concerned about our footage being boring, and I mentioned a few storylines we figured would happen.” She pointed at Throttle and me. “You two and your dad not liking each other was one we pitched.”

“They ate it up like a piece of cake,” Max laughed.

I looked up at Throttle.

This was not good.

“Before you guys report back to the producers, let me call Yarder.” Aero held up his phone. “Keep your lips sealed until I say so, ya dig?”

Adalee held up her hands. “Fine, fine. But you guys are going to be fighting an uphill battle if you think you are going to be able to bury the fact the state attorney general’s daughter is dating someone from the club.”

We loaded up into our vehicles and continued onto Golden.

Aero was in the back on the phone with Yarder while Sloane was leaning in between the front seats.

“How did the camera crew call you two hooking up, and I had zero clue?” she demanded. “I’m the best friend and should know everything before anyone else.” She bumped Throttle’s shoulder. “You included. You sneak in under the radar and sweep Dove off her feet without a sound.”

Throttle glanced at me. “I don’t know if I would say I swept her off her feet. She was the one who climbed me like a tree in her sleep.”

“You let me,” I muttered.

“I have so many questions,” Sloane muttered.

“I’ll tell you whatever you want to know as long as you don’t report it all back to Winter.” Sloane’s life could be an open book for Winter, but I wasn’t too hyped on mine being fodder for a book.

Sloane threw up her hands and sat back. “Whatever. I’m just happy in a few short hours, I will be married and my best friend found her own biker.”
