“You’d drop too if Dove looked your way.” I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand and nodded to Dice for a refill.

“Well, yeah,” Pirate grumbled, “but I really didn’t think you would be next. I mean, you’re the biggest son of a bitch next to Yarder.”

“I think we’re all sons of bitches, Pirate,” I chuckled. “I was just lucky enough to find the one woman who’s willing to put up with me for longer than one night.”

“But what if I like the one night?” Pirate asked. “It’s gotta be boring after a while to be with the same person day in and out.”

“Ask me in twenty years, brother. I’ll let you know.” I tossed back the shot and grimaced. “I’m still a son of a bitch, but now I’m a lucky one.”

Chapter Twenty-Three

Dove

“I’m so happy for you, but I also hate you.” Olive flopped back on Sloane’s bed next to me and threw her hands over her head. “I have never been so bored in my life. Faye barely came out of her room, and every time I so much as got close to the edge of the driveway, Cue Ball or one of the guys would holler at me and drag me back inside.”

“At least you were trapped here with Cue Ball,” I offered.

Olive raised her middle finger in the air. “Wrong,” she droned. “I was trapped here with Cue Ball, seven men, and my ten-year-old son. I’m not even going to include Faye because I only need two fingers to count how many times she willingly talked to me. As soon as she found out it was her douchebag ex who had tried to blow up me and the gym, she just beats herself up for everything.”

Sloane finished zipping up her suitcase and tucked it under the bed. “None of that was her fault.”

“I know,” Olive moaned. “It’s Faye who can’t seem to get that, and I get how she can’t get that. The last time I talked to her, she was beating herself up for even dating Anthony. That was a long, shitty relationship that fucked with her head. Hell, Fade was nice to her, and she went off the deep end trying to love bomb him but just drove him away.”

“Why don’t we all go try to talk to her?” I suggested. “Maybe if she hears from all of us that the explosion wasn’t her fault, it might sink in a little bit.” I knew Faye was dealing with a lot of trauma and guilt, but it wouldn’t hurt to let her know that we were all here for her. I hadn’t spent much time with Faye, but I liked the time I had spent with her.

I pulled Olive off the bed and grabbed Sloane’s hand. “Let’s go.”

We made the short walk to Faye’s room, and I raised my hand to knock.

“Faye,” Olive called. “Sloane and Dove are home. I need you to be on my side of being annoyed they got to have all of the fun while we had to stay here.”

I tipped my head to the side and knocked again. “Faye?” I called.

Sloane bumped me out of the way and opened her door.

“I’d say we’re invading her privacy by opening the door, but she’s not even in here,” Olive grumbled.

Faye’s room looked like all the others. Bed, dresser, and a bathroom. She did have a yellow blanket draped at the foot of her bed, and the top of her dresser was littered with empty soda cans and candy wrappers.

Olive held up a wrapper. “See, I should be in here eating with her.”

I rolled my eyes and backed out of her room. “Maybe she went to the kitchen,” I pondered.

We made our way into the common room, looking for Faye, but didn’t find her anywhere.

“Uh, well,” Sloane muttered. “This is not good, but I don’t want to raise the alarm because I don’t want the guys yelling at her for not being in the clubhouse.”

“She has to be here,” Olive muttered. “Let’s check the garage.” I wasn’t sure why Faye would be in the garage, but it was worth a look.

“Where you going?” Throttle called. He was at the bar with Dice and Pirate, doing shots in the middle of the day.

I waved my hand at him. “To the garage. No need to get all macho on us.”

“Just you, doll,” he called. “You’re the only one I want to be macho on.”

I tipped my head to the side. “I don’t know how, but that turned me on.” I was pretty sure the man could read me the phone book, and I would want to rip his clothes off by the time he got to the b’s.
