Page 53 of My Romeo

“Dove,” Sloane hissed. “You need to focus and not on your biker.”

I shrugged and headed toward the front door. “He’s not my biker.” I glanced over my shoulder at him and laughed. “He’s my Romeo.”

“Gag,” Olive laughed.

“Hey, didn’t you tell me Cue Ball was your savior?” Sloane laughed. “It seems like we all found what we needed.”

“Well, I mean, Cue Ball was my savior. It’s fitting,” she mumbled defensively.

I led the way to the garage and ducked into the front office.

“What the hell are you three doing here?” Yarder called from his office.

“Of course, they have a bell over the door,” I grumbled.

“Uh, we’re just looking for Faye,” Olive called. “Have you seen her?”

“I thought we were trying to keep it under wraps that we can’t find Faye?” Sloane whispered.

Yarder moved to the doorway of his office. “She’s in the parts storeroom. I don’t know why, but she hangs out in there a lot.”

“And you let her?” I asked.

He shrugged. “If I let her in there, I know where she is. One less we need to keep an eye on.” He raised his eyebrow. “Speaking of, anyone know you three headed out here.”

I hitched my thumb toward the clubhouse. “We told Throttle, Dice, and Pirate we were coming here.”

He looked around us. “And one of them didn’t follow?”

Uh, oh. We might have just gotten the guys in trouble.

“It’s a short walk,” Sloane reasoned. “We are more than capable of getting here on our own.”

Yarder tipped his head to the side but didn’t say anything.

“But it doesn’t matter how short of a walk it is,” Olive droned. “Someone should be with us if we step outside the clubhouse.” Olive rolled her eyes and motioned to Yarder. “This is what I had to deal with for a week while you guys were gallivanting all over the country getting married.”

“You had to deal with the club doing everything to keep you safe. Fucking rude of us.” Yarder pointed to an open door. “Head that way, and then take a left. First door on the left is where you’ll find Faye.” He slammed his office door shut, and I felt slightly bad about being annoyed with the club protecting us.

Only slightly, though.

We headed down the hallway, took a left, and opened the first door on the left.

“Faye?” Olive called. “Are you in here, honey?”

The room had racks lining the walls and a row of them down the middle. They were organized with signs in front of each box labeling what they were.

“This is oddly satisfying,” Sloane called. She trailed her fingers over a row of boxes. “Who knew the guys could actually be neat and orderly about something?”

“I did it,” Faye called. “I’m assuming that’s why Yarder lets me hang out in here.” She was seated on the floor against the back row of shelving. “They had it somewhat organized, but I’ve made it ten times better. I figured it was the least I could do.”

Olive moved to Faye and sank down on the floor next to her. “Least you could do for what?” I asked. I had a feeling I knew what she was going to say but hoped I was wrong.

“For everything,” Faye whispered. “If I hadn’t been so stupid to keep going back to Anthony, none of this would have happened. The gym wouldn’t have exploded with Olive inside it.”

“I wasn’t inside it,” Olive pointed out, “and that wasn’t your fault. Anthony is the only one who is going to pay for that.”

“If it wasn’t for me, Anthony wouldn’t have had a reason to blow up the gym, Olive. Your reasons and excuses aren’t valid.”
