“That’s another FBI question. What I heard was that Mistress Jade called the Sarge, complaining about abuse from one of her clients. That’s how the connection was made.” Grant gunned the engine, jerking out into traffic.

Beep!

“Whoa, dude. Don’t kill us.” Abuse? Mistress Jade didn’t seem like the type to take crap from anyone, especially a client.

Grant shot him a grin. “I got this.”

“One of her clients? That doesn’t make sense.”

“Yeah, that’s what I thought. Hell, maybe she has a soft side. She said this dude threatened her and she had other information that led her to believe this guy was the killer.”

“Who?”

“Wait, it gets better,” Grant snorted.

“Grant, who?”

“Hold your horses. Remember the construction site where Michael’s body was buried?”

“Yeah.” Montana shifted, anxiety creating a bad headache.

He laughed. “Well, that’s the site of the River City Aisles project.”

“Okay. What else?”

“The guy in charge of the project, or I should say the one making the big bucks, is on the secret list.”

Montana rolled his eyes. “And that makes him the killer?”

“Well, a damn good suspect, but there’s more.”

“Go on.”

“The project was shut down two years ago. Bankruptcy. Recently the entire development had a bidding war between two opposing companies. Also know the Feds have been looking at some pretty illegal practices. They have been for months so our guy has been on the radar.”

“Fuckin’ tell me who we’re talking about here.” Montana slipped into a knowing, the electric connection he had with Destiny gnawing at his gut. “Fuck! Christopher Worth.”

“How did you know?” Grant seemed incredulous.

“I just do.” He glared out the windshield as his breathing became rapid. “This is nothing more than a game.”

Grant shook his head several times. “The guy is smooth, but there’s more to the story.”

“More?”

“Oh yeah. There’s always more. This hasn’t been totally confirmed yet, but it looks like Mr. Worth is Michael’s brother. Some of the crap on Michael’s hard drive.”

His ears popped, the words echoing. As he turned his head, a distinct vision rushed into his mind. He could see the fire, blood and several bodies. Women. They were dead and had been. “What did you say?”

“That’s our connection. Michael and Christopher are related. Seems that Michael didn’t like his brother but so much. I don’t know details, just rumors.”

Montana yanked out his phone, dialing Destiny. Unable to breath, he coughed then choked.

“You okay, buddy?”

“Not right.”

“What do you mean not right? We have enough evidence, including that DNA you found? Who do you think it belongs to?”
