“Yes, let’s.”

“You’re overdoing it.” Very deliberately, he drew her off the dance floor and guided her to the chair, that had been provided for her. The ceremony was over, the cutting of the cake and their first dance as a married couple was over, and his speech as the groom had been brief and heartfelt just like the vows and promises he’d made to her.

“We’re leaving in a few minutes.”

“I just need to speak to some more- “

“No.” He said firmly, hunkering down in front of her. “You’ve done enough. We’re leaving. I want to spend some time with my wife.”

“Then I need to say goodbye and throw my bouquet.”

“Get it done. The pilot is ready and I’m need to get out of here.” He cupped her face, his eyes intense. “I need you. Is that clear?”

“Yes,” She whispered, her hands gripping his wrists.

“Good. Say your goodbyes and let’s go.”

Joseph cornered him as he was heading back out. His bride was making him impatient and whether or not it looked rude, he was going to scoop her up and head to the car.

“Do you have a minute?”

Maxwell eyed the man curiously. He still didn’t know what to make of his new father-in-law. The man loved his daughter and that was plain to see. He only wanted what was best for her, he couldn’t fault him for it.

“Just.” He glanced at his watch. “My pilot is waiting, and I want to get to Italy before it gets too dark.”

“I just want to say welcome to the family.” He extended a hand, which Maxwell took hesitantly.

“Thanks.”

“I had my doubts about you, but I can see you love my daughter, and you make her happy.”

“It’s my mission in life.”

Joseph nodded. “I saw the way you looked at her when we entered the chapel.” Joseph couldn’t forget the expression on the man’s face. He’d tried his best to hide it, but he couldn’t, it’d shaken him to the core.

“Yeah?” He looked at his watch again, pointedly.

Joseph laughed softly. “I’m holding you up. I was wrong before and am man enough to admit it and say I’m sorry. Because of me, you two missed out on spending time with each other.”

“Which we’ll make up for the rest of our lives. Her happiness comes first and always will.”

“Oh, there you are-“ Alessia stopped short when she saw her Dad.

“Everything okay?”

“Dandy.” Taking her hand, he drew her against him. “Please tell me you’re ready to leave.”

“I’m ready to leave.” She glanced from him to her Dad. “Are you guys okay?”

“Stop worrying.” Lifting her up so that he could get to her mouth, he kissed her full on the mouth. “I’m legal, we’re legal, so I’m free to do this whenever or wherever I want.”

Lowering her, he cupped her face. “I’ll give you five minutes to say goodbye to your Dad.”

With that, he strode out and closed the doors behind him.
