Titus huffed proudly.

“Eight sacks in a game? That has to be some kind of record. Like, where did that come from?”

“I just felt like I had a lot to get out today.”

“Oh,” I said again wondering if his play had anything to do with me.

Walking to a nearby pizza place, I remembered the last time we walked together. We were holding hands. I had liked it. My small hand got lost in his. Everything about that weekend was incredible until Sey had shown up.

“I never got the chance to apologize for what happened,” I told him breaking the silence as we waited for our order.

“No, I should apologize.”

“What did you do?” I asked confused.

“I shouldn’t have mentioned how I felt about you.”

“Oh,” I said remembering it. “Well, you probably wouldn’t have if I didn’t kiss you… twice.”

“You did do that,” Titus said lightheartedly blaming me.

“But, to be fair. I was in mourning and I did see you with your shirt off for the first time. So, I can’t really be blamed.”

“So, it was my fault?” Titus asked amused.

“I didn’t want to have to say that. But…”

“Wasn’t it you who pressured me to take off my shirt?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You chanted “Take off your shirt” and then beat boxed.”

“I don’t remember it that way,” I said knowing that it was.

“Oh, okay.”

“Besides, I was in mourning. You should have known that and resisted my sick beats.”

“Resist your sick beats? Lou, I’m only a man,” he said before we both laughed.

“But seriously, Titus, I’m sorry.”

Titus dropped his smile and lowered his eyes accepting my apology with a nod.

“I’ve missed my best friend,” I told him with a smile. “I’d love to have him back.”

“Did you tell Sey what happened between us that weekend?”

It was my turn to look down.

“I didn’t see the point of it. It’s not like it’s going to happen again, right?” I asked hoping that it might.

“Right. Never again,” he said firmly.

I could barely hide my disappointment. “Never again. So, can I have my best friend back?”

“I don’t know, Lou,” he said drifting off into thought.
