As soon as Quin mentioned Titus’s name, I felt a rush. My face felt hot. I wondered if Quin could tell. If he could, he didn’t let on.

“We could ask him,” I suggested as my heart thumped.

It was then that Quin looked at me strangely. Was I that red? Quin chuckled and agreed.

I felt so nervous waiting for Titus. Would he even want to see me after what I did to him? I knew I wouldn’t want to see me if I were him. I probably shouldn’t even be waiting for him. But wasn’t it Quin’s idea to come down here? It wasn’t like I was stalking him or anything.

“Titus!” I said as soon as he stepped into view.

He looked over at me blankly. He stared at me for a while before turning to Quin and coming over.

“Congratulations on the game! You were incredible out there,” I said wanting to play it cool but failing.

Titus gave a faint smile. “Thanks,” was all he said.

When the silence drew out, I spoke again.

“Quin and I were going to ask you if you wanted to grab something to eat. I know it used to be a tradition last year.”

Quin interjected. “Sey said you guys have a team thing, though. So, if you can’t, we understand.”

“No!” Titus said startling us. “I mean, I could probably come. A different teammate throws something after every victory. I could just go to the next one,” he said turning his sights on me.

I melted under his gaze.

Quin chuckled uncomfortably. “You know what? I just remembered that I told Cage I would do a Facetime with him after the game. I should really go do that.”

I turned to Quin wondering if him not being there would make Titus change his mind.

“Are you sure you can’t come?” I asked pleading with my eyes knowing Titus couldn’t see me.

“No, you two go ahead. He was disappointed I couldn’t come up this weekend. I need to make it up to him. And I’m sure the two of you have a lot to talk about.”

“How’s Cage’s team doing?” Titus asked Quin.

“So far they’re undefeated,” Quin said proudly.

“Tell him I’ll have to see a game the next time I’m back home.”

“I will. Anyway, you two have fun. And congratulations on the win, Titus. It was an amazing game.”

“Thanks,” he said as Quin walked off.

With Quin gone, Titus turned his eyes to me.

“So, do you still want to grab something to eat?” I asked vulnerably.

“Do you?”

“Yeah. Definitely. How often can I say that I’m going out with a star football player?” I teased.

“You’re engaged to one,” Titus said confused.

“I mean, yeah. But you kind of carried the team.”

Titus looked away humbly. “It was a team effort.”

“Titus, I’m pretty sure you gave their quarterback PTSD. He’s gonna wake up screaming because of you. You were insane out there.”
