He smiled and cuddled up against my chest.

“As long as you don’t mind me hanging all over you when were there.”

I wrapped my arm around him, pulling him to me.

“I guess it’s something I will have to put up with.”

“I guess you will,” he said, warming my heart.

Lying in bed as long as we could, I held on to him trying to memorize every bend of his body.

“I should go,” he told me when my mother’s bell rang.

“I’m not sure what I would do without you,” I admitted revealing the deepest part of my heart.

“If I have anything to say about it, you’ll never have to know,” he said with a smile.

Watching his naked body as he left the bed and got dressed, I was reminded of how lucky I was. He really was the most incredible guy I’d ever met.

I was going to be the type of guy he needed. I would sacrifice anything I had to to give him everything he could dream of. I was all in for him. And there was nothing I wanted more then to see him happy.

Getting dressed, I decided to give him a break and make the breakfast. I had to admit that he had quickly developed a knack for it. Experimenting with new ingredients, his waffles were better than mine had ever been.

Hoping he wouldn’t be disappointed, I quickly threw together the batter. By the time he joined me in the kitchen, the steam was already rising from the waffle maker.

“I added the berries to the batter. I don’t know how it will taste. But I had to step up my game considering the wiz you’ve become in the kitchen,” I said with a smile.

“It’s not a competition. It can’t be with me winning so much,” he joked teasingly.

It was almost enough to ruffle my competitive feathers. What was a friendly competition between friends, right?

With everyone else fed and it being just the two of us, I asked him if I could feed him the waffles. He said I could. There was something about it that made me feel good.

I gave him a bite and then I took a bite. And every so often I would lean over and give him a kiss. When there was nothing left on our plates and we were both full, we got ready for the day.

“So, are we still heading to the grocery store?” he asked me with vulnerability in his eyes.

“Of course. After cooking I can see how embarrassingly short we are on supplies,” I said with a smile.

It wasn’t true. But if he needed me to play along to give us an excuse, I was more than happy to.

Dressed and ready to go, I grabbed my keys offering to drive. I wasn’t going to look around every tree as we did it either. I was going to be present and to pay attention to him. He was the most important thing in my life. I was going to show him that.

Focusing on Hil was easier than I thought it would be. Stepping into Glen’s, we were holding hands. It felt good showing the world that he was mine.

“Good morning!” Glen said as we entered.

“Morning,” each of us said with a smile.

Browsing the aisles, I wondered if every day of our lives could be like this. I would pick up things and show it to him. He would shake his head, encouraging me to put it back.

“Are you sure that we don’t need pickled herrings? You don’t know waffles until you’ve put pickled herrings on them,” I hold him.

“I’m going to pray that you’re joking,” he said, staring at me horrified.

“Do you seriously think that I would put pickled herrings on waffles?”

“I don’t know. I’m in the South. Don’t you all put pickled herrings on everything?”
