“Not yet. Admire the color.”

She groaned, lowering her eyes to the glass. “It’s wine.”

I chuckled. “Aged wines are darker in color. This one was also aged in oak barrels which helps with the deep rich color. You won’t notice until I pour the other two.”

“What’s next?”

“Swirl the glass, you need to get a good sense for how it smells. Oscillating provides more oxygen which amplifies the aroma. Memory of the smell will heighten the flavor.”

She narrowed her eyes. “You sound robotic, is that true?”

“Don’t know, but I’m trusting the expert. She trained me and I’m delivering the facts from memory so it is a little robotic.”

Jhorie swirled the wine with precision then inhaled deeply. “Mmm, smells good.”

“See…”

“What did she train you on?”

My lip curled just a little. “Just wine. We’re friends and colleagues, Jhorie, that’s it.”

“That better be it,” she mumbled.

I leaned in and pressed a kiss to the corner of her mouth. “You have my word. This one has hints of caramel, vanilla, and oak.”

She lifted the glass again. “I think I can smell the vanilla, maybe.”

“I can’t promise you it’s in there. Just going by what I was told. Taste it and we’ll see.”

She lifted the glass to her lips and I could tell as soon as her lids fluttered that she liked the taste. She smiled behind the glass and the minute she lowered it enough for me to have access, my mouth was on hers. My tongue pushed through and I explored as I kissed her. When I pulled back I shrugged.

“I think that’s a strong maybe. I can’t say I tasted vanilla.”

Her smile surfaced slowly. “I would chime in but you didn’t give me a chance to let it settle before you took it from me.”

“I said try it andwewould see. I thought it was clear how I’d be offering my opinion.”

She sipped a little more. “I like this one but it’s strong.”

“Tilt the glass to the side.”

Frowning she did as I asked then leveled it again. I motioned to the sides of the glass. “You see that?” The slow streaks left behind caught her eye and she nodded. “They call it legs.”

“I heard that before but didn’t know what it meant.”

“In a general sense it indicates the alcohol content. This one is nineteen percent because of distilled spirit, brandy.”

“So this will get me fucked up?”

“Yeah it will.” I reached for the glass but she dodged me and swallowed the rest, cringing a little from taking down so much so quickly. “It’s sweeter, and richer, but good,” she choked out.

I moved through the other two explaining what I could about the blends. After the last one, she forked a small piece of cheese into her mouth, pointing to the display. “Aren’t you supposed to be pairing the wine with those?”

“Ideally yes, for a true wine tasting, but I can’t promise I’ll get that right. I don’t remember every detail and if I’m being completely honest, I’m winging it.”

“So I’m getting a half-assed tasting?” She lifted a brow and I yanked her to me.

“I can more than make up for what I’m lacking on the wine withthis.” I pushed my hips forward. She looped her arms around my neck and drew me in closer. “That sounds appealing. You might have a deal.”
