“I can tell.” I chuckled and she blushed.

“What? All of this is interesting.”

“It is. I’ve done the whole tour and tasting thing a handful of times before so for me it’s rather mundane. But the experience of you enjoying this does not disappoint.”

She playfully rolled her eyes as we pulled up to the building and he parked the golf cart. “It feels like you’re being condescending.”

“I’m not.” I gripped her chin and leaned in for a kiss. “I thoroughly enjoy anything involvingyou.”

“Mr. Omari, if you follow me, I’ll get you set up in the Vintage Suite. They have everything ready for your tasting.”

I nodded but kept my eyes on Jhorie who smiled ever so slowly. “We should go.”

I moved out of the cart and extended a hand. She slid across the seat, stepped down, and we followed our guide through the building to an elevator that took us to the lowest level of the building.

We stepped off and were surrounded by towering vats holding wine and walls of oak barrels before being escorted to the enclosed space of the cellar. Three of the four walls were lined with mahogany racks. All of which held exclusive wines from Niama’s personal stash.

The space was long and narrow with a matching mahogany table down the center topped with deep brown polished marble that almost matched its wooden base. The lighting was dim and candles flickered in extenders peeking from the concrete walls. The crystal chandelier above the table sparkled and reflected off the walls like diamonds. The room was a complete contrast to the area we’d just left, elegant and refined versus industrial.

“If you need anything, please call.” He motioned to the phone attached to the wall. “Service isn’t great down here. Dinner will be served promptly at five but I’ve been advised to keep the staff away unless you call for assistance.”

I smirked, nodding. “Thank you. We’ll be fine.”

Keeping the staff away was all Niama.

“If that’s all…”

“Wait. Is she here?” Jhorie interrupted and turned to me. “Your friend.”

“No, she’s in South Carolina on business.”

“Oh, I wanted to thank her.”

“You can, just not today. I’ll have her reach out.” I turned to our guide. “That will be all.”

He tipped his head and left. I grabbed Jhorie around the waist and lifted her onto the table. Once I was settled between her legs, I yanked her closer.

“I’m not having sex with you down here.”

“Actually you are but I’m going to give you wine and dinner first.” Her eyes narrowed and I reached around her, lifting one of the bottles. There were three uncorked along with glasses and a spittoon that would go unused. Jhorie wouldn’t waste any of this wine.

There were also trays of gourmet cheeses, dried fruit, and a mix of candied nuts for pairing. I had no intention of going through the full experience. Mostly because I couldn’t remember the process in its entirety but I did have enough insight on the three wines selected to provide all the details. Wine wasn’t my thing but I’d learned over the years and Niama had refreshed my memory, knowing I was bringing Jhorie today. I could have easily had someone with us, but I wanted privacy.

“And what if I object to sex down here?”

“You won’t but if you do, then it doesn’t happen.” I lifted a glass, placing it in her hand and retrieving the first bottle.

“You’re awfully sure of yourself.”

“When a man understands his worth, he moves with confidence and certainty. Everyone else will fall in line because they trust his leadership.Youare not excluded.” I poured wine into her glass. When she slowly lifted it, her eyes on me, I shook my head.

“Not yet.” Those beautiful browns narrowed. “Tasting is actually the last part of the process.”

“Okay then, what’s first?” she questioned with impatience.

“You have to know what you’re drinking.” I lifted the bottle into view. “This is a sweet red blend. Aged five years, one of the first batches produced here. Hence its presence in the Vintage Suite.”

“Okay, I know what it is. Now can I drink.”
