“He won’t. That’s not how our relationship works. Elias will accept whatever decisions I make about my life even if he disagrees with them.”

“He wants you to be happy.” I grinned, lifting my last forkful of grilled mashed potatoes.

“He does.”

“I know, he told me. And followed that up with he will hurt anyone that hurts you.”

He laughed lightly. “Elias isn’t soft with his approach about delivering his thoughts.”

“He most certainly isnot.”

“You don’t need to worry about Elias or what he thinks. If it eases your mind, he and I have already discussed you. He had no objections to me wanting to explore a relationship.”

“When did you talk to him about me?”

“After we returned from LA.”

“Hmm, and what did you discuss?”

He grinned charmingly, tossing his napkin on his plate. After he stood and rounded the table, he leaned over, kissed my cheek, and extended to his full height. “That I found someone who made me happy and I was fully invested in expending everything I had available to me to ensure I returned the favor. We need to get ready to leave.”

“I kind of like it here. You could go to your meeting and I could wait here until you’re done. We could stay a few more days…”

“I only packed enough for an overnight visit, and like you said, might as well get it over with. I’m sure Cress will be thrilled to know she was right about you and us.”

I groaned, doing a quick inventory of the things Ezekiel had waiting for me at the suite. He had taken the liberty of grabbing what I would need to survive the night which wasn’t much considering we had both spent the majority of our time here naked.

“Fair enough.”

“You don’t look convinced, but I have to come in with you to change. So you won’t completely be on your own, not that you need me. You’re more than capable of handling Cress and Elias without me.”

“We’ll see.”

We dressed, packed up, and left the suite. The drive back to the house was peaceful. Elias took calls while I wrapped my brain around marrying him. All of this felt right but also overwhelming. Regardless, it was happening. The mood was light until we reached the gate surrounding his property and Ezekiel’s entire mood shifted. His features turned dark, his body tensed, and his jaw locked tightly.

“Fuck…” Ezekiel parked and glared through the windshield for a long moment which had me doing the same before my eyes were back on him.

“What’s wrong?”

“Too much to explain. Stay here.”

“No.” I held my hand up. “This means I’m a part of whatever that is. Who is she?”

“My mother.”

Ohhh….

“I’m not staying here.” I had no idea what drama was brewing, but based on what little I did know, her being here wasn’t a good thing.

“Jhorie…”

“No, if I’m going to be your wife this is not just your problem anymore, Ezekiel. It’s mine too.”

He closed his eyes and shook his head. “Fine, let’s go.”

We got out and she was the first person he addressed. His words were not kind.

“What the fuck are you doing here?”
