“And you’re sure?”

“Very.”

My gaze remained on her while hers locked on the ring. She eventually lifted the platinum band holding a four-carat diamond from the velvet cushion and extended it to me.

I accepted and she held her hand out, flexing her fingers. “Then ask.”

Mine softly brushed hers as I moved the ring over her finger and kissed her knuckle after I slid the ring on. “Marry me, Jhorie. I want you to be my wife.”

“That’s not a question.”

“It doesn’t need to be.”

She climbed over the cards into my lap and circled her arms around my neck. “This is insane and very impractical, butso am I. So, yes.”

“You sure?”

“Very.” She smiled and kissed me. “But you know how you said you want simple?”

“I do.”

“I want simple too. No big wedding. We don’t even have to have one. When we do this, I want it to be about us. That’s it. No performance, nothing over the top.Simple.”

The wedding I’d had with Sasha was a spectacle. Over two hundred grand spent to appease a hundred plus people who didn’t give a damn whether she and I would survive the union. I didn’t want or need to do that for a second time but if that was what Jhorie desired, I would give it to her without question.

“Are you sure?”

“I want this for all the right reasons. I don’t need any of that.”

I smiled and kissed her again. “I can live with that.”

“Then I can live withyou.”

I chuckled. “You didn’t have much choice with that one detail but it’s good to know you agree.”

I lifted her until her back met the sofa and my body met hers. “Mrs. Jhorie Omari. I think I can get used to that.”

“Me t…”

Before she finished my tongue was in her mouth. Maybe I was a little impractical and crazy too because I felt completely at peace with the idea of making Jhorie my wife.

Jhorie.

I twisted the diamond ring on my finger, focusing on it instead of Ezekiel who sat across from me while we shared an early dinner. He had a business meeting later tonight. So after we ate, I would be delivered to the house while he was scheduled to meet someone for drinks.

I heard him confirming the place and time on a call that morning, which I believed was intentional. He wanted me to know he was indeed leaving me to take a business meeting. It was thoughtful, which I appreciated, but not necessary. I trusted Ezekiel because he hadn’t given me a reason not to. How could I commit to a man I questioned or second guessed?

“Are you going to tell your brother about this?”

His eyes lowered to my ring then flitted up to mine in an assessing manner. I sensed he was attempting to gauge my mood before he responded. “I planned to but we can wait if you would prefer.”

“I don’t mind. Might as well get it over with.”

“Are you worried about what he will think?”

“Yes and no.” I twisted my ring again. “We’re very new and I’m sure he’ll have questions about why we think this makes sense.”
