“Aric, listen…”

“Don’t!”

He fired his weapon. A long stream of red hit the building behind Kael, throwing up bits of metal and concrete like celebratory confetti. The Captain’s heart pumped in his chest as he looked down the barrel, knowing that his head was the next target.

“We can’t let you leave, Aric, you know it,” Kael said, slowly edging closer. “That wouldn’t make me a very good Captain …”

Then something never seen before happened.

The King’s secret entrance to the building opened, and the King stepped out. In his hand, he brandished a weapon … his crown, made of strong Drakonian golden iron, weaved with various sizes of fire stone.

He threw it like a Frisbee, and the head gear soared through the air like a bird and rained down with a cataclysmic thump on Aric’s head. For a moment, the boy was stunned, figuratively and literally, then toppled to the ground, face-first.

The King’s guard burst out laughing, then began to applaud. Kael was positively enraptured.

“That’s how you do it,” the King said, coming out to retrieve his crown jewels. “Take him into custody and lock him in the tower. And don’t let him speak until I feel like speaking to him.”

Kael lifted Aric’s lifeless body and tossed him over his shoulder like a bag of potatoes. Cosmos’s eyes were as bright as the day he was first crowned.

TWENTY-FOUR

SARAH

The wound that Sarah had suffered in the battle at the security building was far deeper than she initially imagined. She had known it the second it struck her that it was unlike any bullet Earthlings had ever invented. Whatever had been lodged inside her was far more invasive, with tentacles that burned from the inside out. She was relieved when she rose to consciousness and saw Kael sitting there, his forehead resting against her forearm. The drugs flowing through her veins must have been strong because, at that very moment, she felt numb to her injuries but felt everything in her heart all at once.

That was why she so easily confessed her love for him. Her mother had actually told her to never admit such serious feelings during a dire situation or after sex when endorphins ran high. Something was certainly running high as she lay in the hospital bed, but it washed away all the negativity, cleaning her of the waste of her shame and doubts.

Kael, along with an assortment of nurses and doctors, nurtured her through the entirety of her injury. She spent a few weeks in bed, talking with Suki, having her bandages changed, and watching Drakonian soap operas. The Captain stayed by her side as much as he was able to, slipping her sneaky kisses on her rosy lips.

Her sex drive had returned with miraculous force, but Sarah still wasn’t quite healed. Kael reassured her they would have all the time in the world to explore each other’s bodies once hers was properly treated.

“It’s just my chest,” she said, only thirteen days after being shot with an alien laser. “The rest of me is plump and ready for you.”

She liked making him blush. It was different than making a human blush. Blood rushed to his tracings and eyes, strumming with potency. She gave him a coy look, thinning out her lips sarcastically.

“I know what you want,” he said at her side of the bed in the evening, the way he always was. “You will have it twofold, my love. I promise you that.”

When Suki wasn’t around, Sarah would go topless. The less strain on her breastbone, the better. The bandage wrapped around her left breast and shoulder, leaving the other free to fondle and marvel at. They lay in bed together talking, his effervescent close proximity not aiding in her attempts to repress her primal urges.

Sometimes, her wound would begin to ooze, dampening the multiple layers of bandages tightly pinned to half her upper body. The nurses showed Kael how to treat it during such an event. He cared for her with tenderness, removing the dressing cautiously and dabbing on the medicinal droplets that kept the pain at bay while she slept.

Sarah watched him closely, sitting up against the pillow, her breasts free to the world and, most of all, him. He was straddling her as he did his meticulous work, golden eyes delicious and glittering.

“I know what you’re thinking,” he muttered.

She giggled, bringing her hands to his thighs. She began to stroke along the ridges of corded muscles, blood pooling into her cheeks and loins.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about …” Sarah murmured.

Kael remained studious, finishing off the tedious practice of re-wrapping her in fresh gauze, tightening it around her shoulder blade so it wouldn’t shift till morning. He then returned next to her in bed, a devilish look on his face.

“What’s that?”

“What?”

“That look,” she toyed with him. “It’s kind of difficult not to feel the bulge when you’re on top of me …”

Kael grunted, then sighed.
