Right in the groin.

Gregory doubled over in intense pain. As Bonita twisted away and ran. Faster than he ever would have anticipated.

She was still partially sedated, for heaven’s sake.

He pulled in a deep breath. Forced himself to fight the pain. She would not get far. He had locked the exits to his lab. No one was going anywhere.

Not her. Not Crispin, who should be secured upstairs at this very moment. And not the young woman still sedated, two doors down.

His donor. Theperfectone.

Gregory tried to catch his breath. To push past the pain.

He had many tasks to handle this night. He could not afford to be delayed. He needed to reprioritize. Handle things…in a triage manner.

Most important, pressingfirst.

Vaughn would be arriving with the surrogate.

The perfect one. Josephine Connors. She would have to be inspected and processed and secured.

Zoey should be waking soon. The same held true for her as well. Inspected and processed. Most certainly better secured.

Once all the women were secure, then he could begin his plans for his beautiful Bonita.Shewas his ultimate reward for working as diligently as he had.

He would finish inspecting Zoey now. And deal with Bonita later.

He would have his beautiful Bonita in his arms again. Tonight. To celebrate the beginning of Stage II.

He would show her where he held Crispin, make her a bargain. Bonita would do as he wished—everythinghe wished—or he would harm the girl she claimed as her own.

Punish Crispin for Bonita’s sins. And he would make his Bonitawatch.

What kind of a mother would she be if she let that happen to Crispin?

Gregory smiled as he imagined it now.

No. Bonita would doexactlyas he wanted. Exactly. Perfectly.

He would have to finish inspecting Zoey, make sure she was as perfect as she first appeared, as well. Make certain he didn’t need to exchange her for one of the others.

Then he would hunt his little Bonita.

Tonight was going to be perfect. Even if he had to sedate Bonita again first. Make her more…manageable. That might be a wise decision anyway—the wrist would be incredibly painful without it. He did not want her insensate from pain.

He was going to have his Denita again. For all their eternity. He intended to start tonight. Denita’s sister had been bornjustfor him, after all.Hisreward for repairing the blight that was humanity.

And everything was going to beperfect.

Murdoch foughtthe panic and rage.

Her phone rang. He looked at the number. It was that one. The mystery caller. He answered quickly. "This is Sheriff Lake."

"Sh-sh-sheriff Lake? From the internet?"

This was a kid. Definitely a kid. She even lisped a little, like his Marlie did. "This is Sheriff Lake. Is this...Oakley? Oakley…Daviess?"
