I straighten and bite the inside of my lip. The bitterness of everything that’s happened today has consumed me so much that I didn’t think of that.

“Yes. That’s a very valid point.”

Luc sits back. “I don’t think this is just him. Software engineer or not. I think he had the right kind of help.”

The right kind of help? Now who would that be?

Who would want to help Neil get my ass in such a way?

The end result no matter which way I look at it is losing River.

I have many enemies, but I have a really bad feeling and a truly farfetched idea about who this person could be.

Sasha?

What if it was him?

Neil all but worshipped the guy when I spoke to him after that message was sent. He didn’t have a bad thing to say about Sasha. Then there was what he said today.

What if I’m right?

* * *

I go above board and get the right kind of help too from the best people I know who can gather intel on anybody within seconds.

By the time I reach home I already have all the tools I need to hack the universe if I want.

I have no doubt I’ll be able to get past any security Neil has in place with no problems and find out the filth he’s been up to.

What I’m doing might be pointless but I’m compelled to do it for several reasons.

First, part of me thinks that if I’m right the Neil, who is pro-Sasha, will do his best to get his daughter back together with that asshole. Despite what’s happened I wouldn’t put it past him.

The next reason I’m doing this is for my sanity. It will literally drive me insane if I don’t get answers.

I head to my office, jump on my computer and hack into Neil’s. As expected he has high level firewalls, but with my tech I walk through them as if they don’t exist.

His emails are what I’m looking for. That is always the best place to start. If I don’t get anything from his emails then his phone will be my next stop.

I find three email accounts. One for work and two for personal use. Since I doubt he’ll use his work email for anything like this I look at the other two. One is so old I’m sure he must have had it since college, the next looks like it was opened over a year ago.

That’s the one I start with because it could have been created for a special purpose. The moment I look in the inbox I sense I’m right.

There are a host of non-disclosed recipient emails there. That tends to mean that whoever sent the message didn’t want to be tracked.

To narrow my search I decide to filter the emails by their IP address. Even though the messages are from undisclosed recipients the systems I have in place are able to find a location.

I’m looking for anything from Russia.

When three hundred of the five hundred emails show themselves as coming from Russia, my stomach hardens.

I open the first message from a year ago and surprise, surprise it’s from Sasha.

It’s him offering Neil money to keep an eye on River. He also lets him know his sentence will be reduced so he’d be out within a year. Neil praises him and promises to help.

The next lot of messages are check ins, until I come on the scene and Neil reports to Sasha letting him know River is getting married to me. Sasha’s reply is an offer of five million to break us up. He then tasks Neil with finding dirt on me that will turn River against me.

Motherfuckers, both of them.Neil you are one nasty piece of shit.
