I click back on the recording and look at Neil standing by the computer. My guess is that was him hacking the system to wipe the footage. After that he got shot.

He rushed to do it instantly so no one else would know what happened.

Fortunately for Neil, he cut the recording at the perfect moment that served to fan the flames of his lies.

What happened that night wasn’t even an accident. Neil intended to kill Rory. It seems that it was only Neil the company fired because they knew he was trying to sell the designs.

I’m sure he also doesn’t know this recording still exists along with everything attached to his name from the hackers. He wouldn’t be messy enough to leave such dirty laundry out for people like me to find or use against him.

I intend to do just that.

For the last eight years I blamed myself for something that wasn’t my fault and I lost the girl I love.

But I was setup.

Chapter33

River

Jericho walks through the door and looks at me

He stops by the coat rack and I gaze up at him.

It’s strange. It was only yesterday that we last saw each other but it feels like I haven’t seen him in years.

His stare is sharp but within his eyes, I can still see that spark of love lurking in the background. It makes me want to rush into his arms and stay there forever, but I can’t do that.

This is one time I can’t listen to my heart, body, mind or soul, which all still answer to him. I’ve had to shut down and I think I made a wise choice.

Earlier he called to meet with Dad and me. Jericho suggested meeting at Dad’s house to make it easier for Dad.

Dad was quickly agreeable because he thinks the meeting is to talk about our divorce.

At first I shoved the idea out of my mind because I recalled what Jericho said. He told me I was more important than his job, but seeing him here now with the large white envelope in his hands makes me think otherwise.

He’s had time to think. So have I.

I’m still lost in the wind, but maybe he came to the decision that his precious company was worth more to him than I am.

If that’s true, it would break me, but wouldn’t that be for the best?

The conflict between us is so thick I can’t even say hello.

“Where do you want me?” he asks breaking the silence.

“The living room.” My voice sounds croaky as if a frog is hopping around in my throat.

“Alright.”

I lead the way and he follows, but each step I take feels like that of a hundred year old woman.

We go into the living room where Dad is stationed opposite the tv.

“Please sit,” Dad says, sounding like he’s enjoying this.

The sick feeling hits me that he is. Of course he is. He finally has the upper hand on a Grayson. ThatGrayson boyhe forbid me to see.

“Thank you.” Jericho sits on the sofa.
