“Yes, you should.” I nod, still assessing her and contemplating calling the hospital. “Are you sure I shouldn’t give the hospital a quick call to run it past a doctor.”

“No. I’m okay. I just need some sleep.”

“Okay. Let me help you.” I help her get up then take her to her room.

She lies down and is asleep within minutes.

Paralyzed with worry, I watch her, wondering what the hell just happened.

She said there was nothing to worry about, but it didn’t look likenothing.

So, what could it be?

Something tells me there’s more to worry about.

Like Gina is sicker than I know.

ChapterSix

Jericho

Irest my hands on the table and focus on potential wife number one—Celeste Wilder. The Megan Fox look-alike.

Now that she’s right in front of me, I can see she’s a dead ringer for the actress.

Tonight is our first date. We’ve been sitting in a private booth on the rooftop of The Mont Bleu for the last hour, getting to know each other over a gourmet meal and a bottle of wine.

I picked this restaurant because it’s one of those places I go to when I need the ambiance of clarity to make important decisions. Like selecting a wife.

Celeste is a former fashion model turned fitness enthusiast. She’s definitely somebody my grandfather would love to see me with because of her career-driven mindset.

From the combo of her looks and personality, I know exactly why Luc placed her number one on the list. It was because he thought she should get the job hands down. He’s probably right. Luc usually is. This occasion is no different, especially since there’s nothing about the gorgeous Celeste I can find to hateyet.

She’s been telling me about herself. And I’ve been trying to listen without allowing my mind to slip back to a certain redhead I shouldn’t be thinking about.

I should be psyched that my plan to find a wife is on the move, and that quite likely if I play my cards right, I could have a suitable candidate by next week.

However, my fucked-up mind has chosen to fixate on my ex.

At least I left River alone like I promised I would and haven’t been back to Club Edge or the café. Against my better judgment, I even respected her privacy and didn’t do any more research to find out what could have happened to her.

Over the last two days, I’ve practically acted as if I never saw her at all, but that doesn’t mean she’s left my mind.

“I was a fashion model for five years before I decided to build my fitness empire, and I’ve been even more successful.” A proud smile inches across Celeste’s lips, highlighting flawless skin and high exotic cheekbones. “I’m thinking of starting my own line of nutritional supplements next year.”

“That’s impressive. What made you go into fitness?” I try to sound like I’m genuinely interested to know more about her plans, even though I’m not. She believes me, though.

“I couldn’t let this amazing body go to waste.” She flicks her wrists and points at herself, pushing out her double Ds against her low-cut dress to show me more of her breasts.

“Of course not.”

A lustful look enters her eyes, and she bites down on her glossy red lips. “So, we’ve been sitting here for a little over an hour. I’m interested to hear what Jericho Grayson thinks of me.”

I think for a moment because I don’t know what the hell to say. Clearly, she wants to know if I picked her or not. As a rule of thumb, I know never to select the first option without looking at the rest and assessing them all together.

“You impress me.” I school my thoughts, imbuing my expression with faux interest.

“Enough to make me your wife?” Her baby blues twinkle with anticipation, and I can see her go-getter attitude coming through.
