She gives me a watery smile and nods. “Yeah, I do.”

I want to beat my chest like a fucking caveman, yell it to the world that Vicenta wants me. That she’s mine.

I lift her hand and kiss the inside of her wrist before exiting the car and walking around to her side. I may have a battle before me, a battle of wills with someone who is trying his damnedest to steal my woman, but right now, I’m on fucking top.

I open her door, helping her from the car and leading her inside, but then she freezes, her eyes locking on something. I follow her gaze and see Katalina standing inside the house, her face lit up as she speaks to Vicente.

“I didn’t think she’d be here today. At least Vicente isn’t third wheeling.” I tug her forward but she pulls her hand back.

“Did you have something to do with her and Alvaro’s betrothal?”

I step in front of her, and look into her eyes. “Yes.” When she scoffs angrily, I cup her face. “But that was before you. I didn’t know anything about you. When I did, I thought you were some old lady getting married to Marío.”

She sighs and relaxes into my hand. “I believe you. But tell me the truth, are they still getting married?”

Oh, what a dream that would be.

“No. The contract has been terminated and you should know, Katalina never wanted to marry him either.”

I hate that I have to tell her this like I’m helping Alvaro win her heart, but she asked and I answered honestly. I’m positive this woman could get anything out of me at this point.

“Okay. Thank you for telling me.”

I put my arm around her waist, guiding her inside. “Now, let’s eat so we can start our month, yeah?”

She looks up at me, a smile on her face as she nods her head. “Yeah.”

Two hours after eating, we decide to head back to the beach for a day of nothing but whatever Vicenta wants to do, which happens to be racing on the ocean. While she and Katalina started out awkwardly, they seem to have settled into something I wouldn't callfriendship, but it’s better than how I thought it would be. Vicente, on the other hand, seems to enjoy the view of my half sister’s beauty, andher attention to him.

She’ll ruin him.

As the girls get dressed, I pull out the cell phone Alvaro gave to me, noting that there’s not a lock on the device. Fuck me, I guarentee Alvaro went through every damn app on here.

Why doesn’t she have a lock on it? Her father’s dictator-like face flashes in my mind. Fucking prick.

I click on the phone app and dial Alvaro.

“Bruja,” he breathes into the phone, making me roll my eyes.

“Diabla,”I use my nickname for her, a smile in my voice when he growls, “wants to spend the day jet skiing with me, so I thought I’d call you and let you know that I won’t be giving her the phone until tomorrow.”

“And you just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to call me withherphone?”

I chuckle before hanging up.

Sliding the phone back into my pocket, I take out mine and send a text off to Javier, telling him to get four jet skis to the beach. When I’m done, my phone rings and I see Marío’s name on the screen.

“What do you want?” I ask disrespectfully.

“My fucking wife, puto. You and Alvaro have no clue what I will do to both of you if I don’t have her back within the hour.”

My laughter rumbles out of me. “Wife, huh? You know, Marío, I’ve waited five years for the right opportunity to kill you, now I have one. Please, try and take her from us.”

My mouth slams shut when I realize I’ve made it sound like Alvaro and I are willingly sharing her, but then I think it would be better if he thinks we do. He’ll hesitate to act, if he’s smart.

“I will kill you, Romero.”
