“Jules!” she practically screamed when her friend picked up.

Far too casually her friend replied, “Oh hey Win. I wasn’t expecting to hear from you for a bit? I thought you were taking the kids on a vacation with your new family?”

Oh, is that what you thought?“Well, actually, that is not exactly the case. Look, um…this is gonna sound crazy, but um…could you maybe come pick me up?”

“Pick you up? Is everything okay? I mean, yeah, just give me a sec. Where are you?”

“Uh, I don’t really know…Oh, wait! Let me check my phone,” she said.

“Check your phone? You don’t know where you are?”

“It’s a long story, can you just come get me, like now? I’ll explain in the car.”

“Of course, just tell me where. But I gotta tell you, you are kinda freaking me out a little!” her friend replied.

”Oh man, I am way over off Route five up past the Clouded Woods on the other side of the Craven Rock Peaks.”

“That’s still not too far. Look, just send me your location,”

Winona did so. Thankfully, Jules wouldn’t take more than fifteen minutes to get there.

“Okay, Win, I’m leaving now. See you in a few. You’re sure you’re okay?”

“Yes, I’m sure, but boy do I have a story for you…”

She hung up and continued heading for the sound of cars up ahead.

Well, I hope you learned your lesson this time, Winny.

She decided this was absolutely, positively the last time she would have anything to do with shifters… or fae for that matter!

God, this town is nuts!

CHAPTER22

After high-tailing it all the way there, Rollo was the first across the threshold at the safe house, with Dax right behind him.

“June!” he called as he walked into the kitchen.

“What happened?” Dax addressed her as she entered the room with Bucky and Jaye in tow.

“Like I told Bloom. I came over to strengthen the wards and I wanted to say ‘hi’ to the boys. I just hadn’t seen them in a bit, and it seemed harmless when the nanny asked me to keep an eye on them. They were so excited, and so was I. They wanted to show me that she had taught them to make pancakes, and they led me into the kitchen and called her too. She told us she had some tidying up to do in her room and asked me to look for the boys for a few minutes. It couldn’t have been more than ten minutes. I mean, I had no idea…”

“Of course not, how could you? But you’re sure she’s not here?” Rollo interrupted.

“We had a look around, but you know how fae dwellings can be. I have been trying to get a straight answer from the house spirit, but her and I aren’t really on a first name basis just yet…”

He and Dax exchanged a look that spoke volumes.

“Right, right,” Rollo cut her off again.

“Let’s do another search just in case,” he said looking at her. “And, um…can we maybe keep this light, if you know what I mean?” he added, nodding his head toward the boys.

“Daddy, where’s Winona? She promised to make pancakes with us,” said Jaye, almost right on cue.

“Well, I am sure we can arrange for that. And I am sure she is right around here somewhere. Or maybe she went for a walk, but we can definitely get you waffles,” he said, looking at Dax and June. “We’re just gonna have a quick grown up talk first, so go ahead and get the things we’ll need and we’ll be right there.”

As soon as they had passed into the next room, he looked June in the eye. His wolf was tearing at his insides. “Is it possible Frederick broke in and grabbed her?” He could feel himself on the verge of losing control.
