“Good morning, sexy.” I placed the tray over his lap and kissed his forehead.

“Good morning to you, beautiful.” His voice was gravelly from sleep and making me think all types of dirty things.

Down, girl. You can’t just spend the rest of your life fucking the man of your dreams like a wild animal.

He looked up and grinned, his eyes acknowledging exactly what I was thinking.

Actually, yes, I could. Because it was my life, and I would do whatever the hell I wanted with it. He placed the tray of food on the side table and pounced on me a second later, both of us laughing as we rolled around the bed.

Life was good at that moment.

Chapter Ten

Nova

Cian and I pulled into the parking garage underneath the Hellfire Club, four more SUVs rolling in behind us. It was Halloween, and we were all ready to let loose and get a little wild.

Cian walked around the hood of the car and opened my door. My hand slid into his and I hopped down. He shut the door and pressed his body against mine, caging me inside his arms.

He looked so hot in his outfit. The black suit fit him like a glove, showing off all his glorious muscles that I had become very familiar with. My gown matched his outfit, black and gold. We looked like the king and queen of the masquerade ball, and I was loving it.

“What are the rules tonight, little star?” His thumb rubbed across my bottom lip, and I fought the urge to lick him.

“Stay with the boys and don’t go off anywhere on my own.” I rolled my eyes playfully, knowing that he loved seeing my bratty side.

“And if you break the rules?” He pressed his body flush against mine.

“You’re going to punish me.” I wiggled my eyebrows at him suggestively.

“Good girl.” His lips pressed to mine, and I let myself melt into him for a moment. A clearing of throats had us turning around and chuckling.

Eros and Orin stood in their skintight Batman and Robin costumes, hands on their hips. They looked pretty awesome, especially since the costumes did nothing to hide their physiques. If they were trying to find dates tonight, something told me they would have no trouble.

“You guys done licking each other’s faces off?” Thora came around the car in her Wonder Woman costume and put her hands on her hips, mimicking her brothers.

Cian chuckled, the sound sending a tingling sensation up my spine. “I’ll have a few things to attend to throughout the night, but I’ll be watching you.” He brought my fingers up to his lips and kissed them. “Love you,” he whispered into my ear, and I said the same.

He slipped on his mask and tightened the knot of his gold tie. Cian had had the masquerade masks commissioned by an art friend of Thora’s. They were black and gold with intricate details painted all over, and also had the fiercest set of spiked gold devil horns coming out of the top. I wore a matching mask with the same black and gold tones, which also matched my dress. He headed upstairs and my phone vibrated with a text from Jules, letting me know she was already in the VIP section.

Valik stepped from behind the car and whistled, twirling his fingers in the air to get our attention. Of course, he was dressed as the Joker, because he hadn’t wanted to be left out of the group fun. I had to hand it to him, he pulled it off brilliantly, opting for a purple suit and green vest. The big smile painted on his face with red paint was slightly jarring, but hell, you couldn’t be the Joker without it.

“Is everyone armed?” Valik gave us all a pointed look.

Dread threatened to eat at me for a moment, but I shook it off. No, I would not let any bad thoughts get in the way of having a good time tonight. Cian had amped up security mostly because it was Halloween and all the freaks liked to come out and cause mayhem, but I knew it was also in case Ryzen showed up. Not that I would have thought in a million years that he would. No, not at Cian’s club. No way.

“Yep.” The three of them said in unison, reaching down and checking their weapons. They were always armed. Hell, I couldn’t remember ever seeing Eros or Orin without a gun.

“Nova?” Valik gazed up and down at my costume.

“Yeah.” I cleared my throat and patted my thigh where my switchblade was nestled. It was like a permanent accessory at this point, but I didn’t mind. It provided me with a sense of control, and God knew I needed more of that these days.

The faint thump of music could be heard as we made our way upstairs and into the first level of the club. I gazed around in awe as we walked through security, the guards waving us through without patting us down. Cian had really outdone himself this time. It was like stepping into another world: a dark, gothic one, where the walls were draped in dark velvety curtains and there were wrought-iron fixtures throughout. Flickering candles hung from above, casting an eerie glow on the dancers underneath, and hauntingly beautiful statues were scattered all around. Some looked like gargoyles perched high up top, and others looked like Grim Reapers. The whole setup was beautiful and slightly ominous.

I followed Eros, Orin and Thora across the dancefloor, Valik right behind me with his hand pressed on my lower back as we worked our way through the crowd. Everyone had come to impress tonight, that much was obvious. Some people were dressed as classic monsters, others as pop-culture icons. I passed a woman dressed head to toe in latex as she yanked on the chained collar of one man at her feet, and I nodded in approval. Another man ran past me dressed as the Mona Lisa painting, with what I assumed was Leonardo da Vinci chasing after him with a paintbrush. The DJ booth was perched high above the crowd, covered in darkness as the music blasted through the speakers.

We found Juliet in the VIP section on the second floor, and she squealed when she saw me. “Oh, my God, you look stunning. Your mask is so beautiful. Damn, I need to order one of those.”

“Jules, you are to fucking die for.” My mouth fell open at her Harley Quinn costume. She had nailed it down to a T, even the pink and blue pigtails.
