“This promise meant the world to me. It’s what I hold on to every day when I wake up. But it’s not enough anymore, Sterling. I need more.” I reach into my other pocket and this time, when I pull out the rose-gold band, there’s no mistaking that Sterling knows what this is.

She immediately stands up in her chair, her mouth falls open with an audible gasp and a tear escapes her eye. Dakota and my mom are quietly crying and Jax is silently cheering me on.

“I want to do more than make promises to you, Sterling. I want to vow. And I can’t wait to honor those vows for the rest of our lives, if you’d do me the honor of being my wife.” I take her shaky hand in mine and hold out the two-carat princess-cut diamond ring, waiting for her to answer.

“Callan,” she whispers again, and every ounce of me begs for her to say yes. If she says no, I’d be wrecked. But a few seconds go by, and she doesn’t say anything. She doesn’t look at anyone else but me. My heart starts to hammer harder in my chest.

“Sterling.” I shake her hand gently.

“You did all this for me?” she asks, and it’s not what I want her to say. But I stand up from my knee, still holding the ring in my hand and using the other to swipe my thumb across her lip.

“I’d do anything for you, My Little Rose. I love you.” I pull her into me, and I feel a tear stream down from her eye and meet where our lips are pressed together.

She pulls away and I miss her already.

“Callan Greyson David,” she breathes, only loud enough for me to hear. “There is nothing I want more than to be your wife. Of course, I’ll marry you,” she says, and my brain can hardly process it.

“Really?” I ask.

“Yes!” she shouts, I place the ring on her left hand and claps begin to erupt from all around us. Not just at our table, but from the whole restaurant. She jumps up into my arms and kisses me frantically. “Yes,” she murmurs into my lips, and I squeeze her tight, never wanting to let her go.

“Special dessert delivery.” The waitress lowers a cake to the table with a topper that saysShe Said Yeson top and she gives me a warm smile as I lower her to her feet.

“You’re incredible, Mr. David.” Sterling takes her seat and I follow in next to her.

“Anything for you, my beautiful fiancé.” It feels so good to say those words.

Fiancé.

Everyone starts bantering again, reaching for cake or asking to see the ring. It’s perfect for her. She’s perfect for me. This night went better than I expected.

I can’t help but feel so full of love and life as I look at what I have in front of me. I’m not sure what I did to deserve any of this. But I do know one thing and I’m reminded of it every time I look into my beautiful girl’s eyes…

It was always you.
