“No.” He frowned down at me. “Youdid it. My most special Zo-Fee. You’ve provided us protection from our greatest foes.”

“Nope! Going to have to disagree. If I’ve learned one thing recently, it’s that we’re a team.” My smile gentled. “None of us are alone if we have each other.”

He lifted one of my hands to his lips and kissed my fingertips, his tone going serious. “I promise you, my soul’s breath, you will never be alone again.”

Raxnor’s arms encircled me, wrapping me in all of his love and safety and strength.

I tugged on his horn, pulling him closer to whisper, “I promise I will always want you, always chooseyou, my love, my husband.”

His incandescent smile lit my heart, and he poured all his love and joy into a world-stopping kiss.

The next door let out onto a quieter hallway with pale-yellow walls like the lizard aliens cared about keeping this part of the ship nice. That should mean escape pods.

I sidled up to the first intersection, heart pounding something fierce. Here was where I’d get caught, stumbling onto a bunch of lizards.

You’re sure as shit going to get caught if you just stand here, Ella.

Taking a deep breath, I raised the wrench. It wasn’t like I had any other damned choice but to move forward.

A muffled thud sounded.

I waited, barely daring to breathe.

Movement!

I launched forward, swinging down. The wrench glanced off something hard with a clack. Then I plowed into a hard body.

We went down in a tangle of limbs, with me on top of an alien, who sure wasn’t a lizard. He looked kind of like a human, and even had black hair, but his face was blue, his eyes purple, and freaking horns grew out of his head—four of them!

Even weirder, he grinned up at me with wide eyes like I was every Christmas present he’d ever wanted. It showed off his fangs.

The seriously muscular body beneath me shifted, making me aware of how we pressed together from thighs to mid-chest. My damned body grew a mind of its own and wiggled against him, my lady parts springing to life.

Then he spoke, a series of nonsense syllables.

I scowled. The lizards constantly barked orders I couldn’t understand. Here was a new type of alien, but I was stuck in the same damned boat. I was sick of it. “I can’t understand you. Any of you! You’re aliens! Or I’m the alien! Whatever.”

He patted at the air with his hands and said something in a soothing voice, like cowboys used in the movies to calm a wild horse.

That didnotmake me feel one bit better. “I’m not an animal.”

He only grinned wider. Those big hands wrapped around my shoulders, and heliftedme off him with pure brute strength.

When we were both on our feet, he towered over me, a good foot taller. Those shoulders of his were wide enough to need two zip codes.

Hell, I was six-two and a solid two-hundred pounds of padded muscle. He’d moved me like I weighed nothing. No one had ever made me feel dainty before.

I didn’t hate it.

Lying on top of him had been the closest I’d gotten to a guy, ever. It had felt okay. Naw, no sense lying to myself. It had felt great. But I sure as shit wasn’t telling him that, what with him already grinning like the cat that got the cream.

A lizard lay on the floor a couple of feet away. The thunk I’d heard earlier.
