“So…”

“The club isn’t what it used to be.” Mickey sighed. “We have fewer toys these days, and the members began to question whether they should look somewhere else for forbidden thrills. This whole policy of not paying for toys has been working fine for years, but now it has become a weakness—a weakness we shall exploit. Does my plan make more sense now?”

“I guess, as far as crazy plans go.” Jay turned to Chris. “Are you cool with this?”

The question was so preposterous, it took Chris a moment to collect himself before shouting, “I’m not fucking cool with this!” He looked Mickey in the eyes, barely holding back from strangling the man. “I will convince Tobias to invite me and Anthony to his house, and I don’t need anyone to help me.”

“And if you fail? Are you willing to risk your marriage?” Mickey turned to Jay. “Are you willing to risk your freedom?”

“I don’t take kindly to threats, little man.”

“Then I hope you take kindly to prison showers.” His eyes hardened. “Listen closely, you two. This isn’t a discussion, and definitely not a negotiation. We have one shot to get those invitations, and we’re doing thismyway. Jay, pick something for him to wear.”

Chris shook his head. “I’m not… I can’t walk around like a toy. Those people know me!”

Mickey’s voice became a tad gentler. “We will go straight upstairs to a private room. Very few people will notice you.”

Even if that was true, those few people would surely talk, and soon—maybe even tonight—every member of the club would hear about the downfall of the once-rising star. He would be ruined.

“What will Oscar want him to wear?” Jay asked.

“Good question.” Mickey eyed Chris. “A collar is a must, and Oscar enjoys having the toys wear feminine clothes. A skirt and stockings should do the trick.”

“Fucking no!”

“Mind giving us a minute?” Jay asked Mickey.

“Fine, but time is ticking.” He stood up and shook his head at Chris. “Honestly, Roberts, one might think you still have a shred of virtue in your body. Let’s not kid ourselves.”

Chris wanted to punch someone, but since the only other person in the room could knock him out cold, he settled for pacing around and trying to find a way out of this mess.

“Sit down,” Jay said.

“I need to think.”

“Your thinking won’t help. Sit down.”

Chris sank to the chair in front of Jay. “You love it, don’t you?”

Jay raised an eyebrow. “Meaning?”

“Seeing me humiliated.”

“Let’s not do this now.” He leaned forward with his elbows on his knees. “What’s the worst that can happen if people see you as a toy? I thought you’re not hanging around here anymore.”

“The members of this club lead every important firm in the city, and if I ever want to work somewhere else—which I damn well do—those big firms will not take me in. I’ve seen how people here look at toys.”

He could read Jay’s thoughts. And this is where you brought Anthony to?But Jay ended up saying, “I understand.”

“You don’t.”

“Because I fix cars? I know firsthand what being humiliated feels like. And right now, I’m not your enemy, so aim your bullets elsewhere.”

Despite the bluntness, hearing that helped reduce some of Chris’s anger, yet did not address his fear.

Jay stood and walked toward the racks. “Take your clothes off.”
