That was true. He used to think he was his own army, but life had proved him wrong time and time again. It didn’t sit right counting on the man who had turned him into a whore for help, but at least he knew Jay wasn’t just talk.

“Okay.” Chris’s lungs hurt less than before, but he still felt like an old, used rag. He pushed himself up carefully.

“Easy.” Jay helped him sit on the edge of the bed.

“I need a shower.” He wasn’t going to get back to normal with parts of Oscar still hidden inside his body.

Jay sniffed. “Yeah, you reek.”

“Fuck you.”

Jay stood and offered his hand.

Chris took it.

He didn’t have his clothes back, but at least he felt cleaner after the shower. It took a while to get rid of the lipstick, but there was nothing he could do about the marks and bruises taking shape across his body. He would need to be careful next to Melissa, but at least his face had been spared. He followed Jay downstairs, noticing it was already dark outside.

“You sure you hid it well?” Chris whispered when they reached the first floor. He could faintly hear Oscar’s voice from the living room.

“If they look for something suspicious, they’ll find it, but if they don’t, it should be fine.”

“Okay. Have you seen Anthony?”

“Not since I left him with Tobias.”

A shiver ran down Chris’s spine with the memory of Dima’s words. “If he’s not in the living room, tell them to bring him back immediately.”

Jay watched him closely. “What’s wrong?”

“I have a bad feeling.”

Jay sighed. “Great.”

They walked into the living room where Oscar and Ethan were sitting on the couch, both fully clothed and drinking wine. Oscar was saying, “And that is how I ended up buying a helicopter, even though I’m afraid of heights!” Chuckling, he turned to look at Jay. “There you are. Ethan and I have been having the most thrilling conversation.”

Ethan rolled his eyes without Oscar noticing.

“Cool,” Jay said. “You know where Chris’s clothes are?”

“Must you cover him up so quickly? Although I did have enough excitement for one day. I usually take naps in the afternoon, you see, but I was simply too excited to take one today. Dima! Bring Chris’s clothes over here.”

“Where’s Anthony?” Jay asked.

“I don’t have him lying in my pocket, obviously. He must be with Tobias.”

Dima entered the room. Seeing him brought back the horrible feeling of suffocation. Chris took his clothes without making eye contact and quickly put them on.

“Dima, where’s Tobias and Anthony?” Oscar asked.

“Playing.”

“Playtime’s over,” Jay said. “It’s late and we need to be heading back.”

“Okay. I’ll go get Tobias.”

“And Anthony,” Jay added.
