But then suddenly, she shot up angrily and hurried out of the room before I could say a word.

My heart constricted in my chest at the sight of her leaving with tears in her eyes, and then clarity struck me like a bolt of lightning.

I was a fucking fool!

When she left, the room became cold, gray, and empty. I could not bear the misery around me. I needed to be around her warmth, her light.

I may not be worthy of her love, but I could change. I could do damn well better than a pack of criminals, I resolved with clenched fists.

I grabbed the phone and dialed the number of the illegal smuggler, Adrian.

“Hey man, deal’s off. The omega found another pack.” I said curtly to him.

“Dude, what the fuck?! We’ve been waiting for years, you know that!” He exclaimed over the phone angrily.

“Nothing I can do. She chose someone else,” I replied with a grin, hanging up the phone.

I bounded downstairs to find the sulking Chase. As soon as he saw me, he threw a punch straight at my face.

I caught his fist and shoved him back to the wall.

“What the fuck, man!” I shouted at him, shoving him again as he came at me with his fists.

“I don’t give a fuck anymore,” he hissed at me, rage in his eyes.

“We are not going to lose out on a beautiful, sweet omega in need because you can’t get your head out of your own ass.” He snarled at me, going for my throat.

I held him back and kicked his legs out from under him, toppling him to the floor.

Clearly, he was unable to be rational at this moment, and I didn’t blame him. I would have to wait until he cooled off before telling him we would keep Gabriella if she desired it.

I turned my back and walked away, but his cold words stopped me in my tracks.

“We are not Steven and Adam. And Gabriella is not Judith.”

I froze in my tracks, the memories overtaking me, and grief consumed me as I remembered the pack I used to have.

Five Years Earlier

I stood at the gravesite as the other alphas around me lowered Steven’s casket into the ground, chanting the last burial rights for a dead alpha.

One by one, each of them threw down a shovel full of dirt, covering the wooden box that held the body of my childhood friend… the first alpha to join my pack.

The shovel was handed to me, and I stared at it numbly. I was nudged forward until I reluctantly scooped up some dirt and dropped it onto the pile covering Steven’s casket.

Another group of alphas came in next, bearing the body of Adam, the second and last member of my pack. The grief overtook me, and I fell to my knees, consumed with anger and sorrow.

I screamed out to the sky in agony.

I had failed to protect my pack. I had let a devil insert her way into my home, and now I paid the ultimate price.

The other alpha leaders surrounded me, saying words of reassurance, but it fell on deaf ears. I had lost my entire pack, and that was a mistake no alpha could bear.

Memories of how Judith sneakily made her way into the Omega Outings and then proceeded to convince us all that she was indeed in heat and was our mate sickened me to my core.

All she was after was our name and status. She couldn’t care less about anything else. Steven and Adam believed her lies wholeheartedly, but I knew something was wrong with her from the moment I set eyes on that bitch.

As soon as she drained Adam and Steven of every dollar they had, she went on to the next pack. And like fools, they blindly followed her and challenged the new alphas she shacked up with.
