I awoke with a start, unsure if I was having a nightmare. I took a few calming breaths and reached over to hug Gabriella close to me. My mouth curved into a smile, remembering the epic knotting session we had.

There was an instant burning attraction between us.

My smile dropped into a frown as I patted the empty space beside me. I sat up and looked around for her, only seeing Stone’s hairy leg near my foot.

I kicked him awake, and he sputtered mid-snore.

All the movement woke up Chase, and he sat up, looking around in confusion.

Then, we all froze as we heard the faint sound of a metal chain scraping against the floor downstairs.

Immediately, our hackles were raised, our alpha instincts on high alert.

Chase’s fangs shot out, and his eyes shifted to his wolf’s sight, stronger and more predatory than his human side. My mouth felt crowded as my fangs shot out as well, and I leaped from the bed, landing softly on my feet, not making a single sound.

The others followed suit behind me, silently so as to not alert the threat downstairs.

Whatever it was, it just activated their death sentence by entering an alpha’s lair without permission.

Like a deadly weapon, one by one, we shot out of the room and flew down the stairs. I held out a hand as we reached the bottom, sniffing the air for a clue to where the threat was.

An acrid stench came from the direction of the kitchen, and I motioned to my pack. They nodded grimly, understanding what I was conveying.

My claws shot out in preparation, and I counted down from three, wanting us all to be in unison as we got the jump on our enemy. I wasn’t sure how many it would be, so I wanted to give my pack the best advantage.

I burst into the kitchen with a roar while Chase swooped in behind me, slamming the light on.

I froze, my blood running cold.

The disgusting rat Wesley stood by the sink with his claws wrapped around Gabriella’s neck. He quickly pivoted, using Gabriella’s body as a shield to protect himself from me and my pack.

He sneered at me, his eyes filled with jealousy and hate.

“Shoulda killed me when you had the chance,” he taunted out, squeezing Gabriella’s neck a little bit harder.

She stared at me in terror, her eyes swimming with tears. I tampered down the boiling rage, careful not to let it show in my face.

“Just let her go, and we can settle this between us like alphas. No need to have an omega involved,” I bit out, trying to get him to see reason.

He cocked his head to the side thoughtfully.

“You’re right. No need to have omegas involved.” He repeated back to me ominously.

A burst of hope flared in my chest. If he just set aside Gabriella for even a second, I would have the chance to rip his head off once and for all.

He let out a manic giggle.

“If I can’t have Gabriella, then no one can. You can’t fuck a dead corpse. A dead corpse. A dead corpse,” he parroted himself mockingly, losing his grip with reality.

He giggled uncontrollably and kissed the top of her head in farewell.

Gabriella closed her eyes in defeat. Her life was in the hands of a deranged alpha.

Gabriella

I didn’t realize how far gone Wesley was until he said those chilling words.
