Gabriella was unusually quiet as we sat down to eat at her favorite brunch spot. The whole drive there, she had barely said a word. I exchanged worried glances with Chase over the top of her head.

He shot me a worried look as well.

So, I wasn’t the only one who noticed that her behavior was off.

I wracked my mind at the past events of the last few weeks. Did we do anything wrong or upset her in some way?

To my knowledge, the past few days were wonderful, magical even.

Could she be having nightmares about Wesley? I literally had no idea what could be bothering her. The only way to find out would be to ask.

“Gabriella, baby, is there anything you want to talk about?” I asked her carefully, trying not to pay too much attention to my words.

She froze with a forkful of scrambled eggs on the way to her mouth. She dropped the utensil with a clatter, egg splattering everywhere.

“I’m so sorry, so sorry,” she hastily said, trying to clear up the mess in a panic.

“Don’t worry about it, Stone’s got it,” I said, alarmed at her reaction.

Now, I knew something was definitely wrong. It was up to me to fix it.

Chase

“I get that Gabriella’s been off, but this isn’t the solution!” I argued with Roman in his office.

The top alpha held a jewelry box with a beautiful diamond ring nestled in the center of it.

He paced the room in agitation, running his hand through his hair.

“She’s clearly upset about something. We need to show her that we are committed to her as soon as possible. Proposing now is the way to go.” He barked out at me.

I took a breath before responding.

When Roman got it in his head to do things one way, there was no talking him out of it.

“Of course, we are committed to her. She knows that. But it's better to wait a couple of more weeks so we can do the elaborate celebration we talked about,” I tried to reason with him.

I wanted Gabriella to have the engagement party of her dreams. I get that she was feeling down lately, but I still thought waiting a bit for the final preparations would make a much better impression on her.

Roman was already shaking his head before I finished my sentence.

“No, we are doing this now. I can’t stand by and let my omega be sad when I could do something about it.” He decided.

I closed my eyes in defeat.

“Tell Stone to put on his suit after he’s done feeding Gabriella, and we’ll do this in the living room tonight,” Roman commanded.

I angrily stormed out, calling all the reservations I had booked and canceling them.

Gabriella

Stone left the room in a hurry after feeding me my lunch, and I gazed at my tummy despondently in the mirror.

I desperately wanted to feel a baby growing in my womb, to experience all of the baby kicks and hiccups. I just couldn’t resign myself to a life without babies, and I knew I could not subject the alphas to that fate either.

My time with them was limited.

It was better I walked away now before we got too attached to each other. They were better off finding an omega who could give them a houseful of babies.
