Now, with the ring box securely in his pocket, he knew the time had come. He took a deep breath and knocked softly on her door.

"Grace?" he whispered.

The door opened, revealing Grace looking adorable in her Christmas jammies—courtesy of Holly, because that Christmas-obsessed woman couldn't stand for one of her friends to go to bed on Christmas Eve without Christmas jammies.

Grace's eyes widened in surprise, and her brow furrowed in confusion. "Tommy? What are you doing here before the sun's even up?"

He hushed her with a brief but tender kiss before taking her hand and leading her downstairs to stand in front of the large tree. The twinkling lights illuminated her face, making her look even more beautiful. Grace’s snowflake ornament hung prominently on the tree, and he couldn't help but grin as he recalled its significance.

"Remember when you told me about how every snowflake is unique, and that's why you loved them?" he asked, his voice soft and filled with emotion.

"Yes, I remember that conversation very well... Why?"

Tommy's heart pounded in his chest. This was it.

He slowly got down on one knee, never breaking eye contact with her as he reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring box.

"Grace," he began, his voice wavering slightly with nerves. "Every snowflake is unique, and every experience is unique, and our relationship is unique."

Grace's eyes sparkled with wry laughter as she tilted her head at him.

"Hey, stop looking at me like a writer. I know I'm making a mess of this, but gimme a minute."

She pursed her lips and bowed her head for him to continue.

"Anyway," he said, clearing his throat. "I don't want you to think that our life here in Snow Hill will be any less special than all of the cool things out there in the world. I don't want you to worry about it being ho-hum or boring, because I know how much you love adventures and trying new things. So in addition to all of the other vows we'll make on our wedding day, I'm also vowing to make sure our life together always feels like an adventure to you, even if we're settled down right here."

Grace let out a jagged breath, clearly touched by his words.

Encouraged, he opened the box, revealing a beautiful diamond ring that seemed to shimmer and dance in the soft glow of the tree's lights. Grace gasped, tears welling in her eyes as she stared at the ring, then back at Tommy.

"Will you marry me, Grace?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

For a moment, time froze as Grace stared at him, tears streaming down her cheeks. Then, with a shaky breath, she smiled through her tears and nodded.

"Yes," she whispered. "Yes, I will marry you."

Heart full—with relief, mostly, but other great emotions too—Tommy slid the ring onto Grace's finger, then stood so he could seal their promise with a passionate kiss.

But he before he did, he glared down at her. "If you dare put that finger of yours on my lips and say you'll marry me on one condition—"

She laughed, cutting him off. "You'd do whatever it was, and you'dlikeit, too."

Her teasing words had him growling playfully as he crashed his lips down on hers, and he had no idea how long they stood there in front of the tree, alone, savoring every second of a kiss that promised forever.
