We break off and go our separate ways. Person after person I come across says they did not see anyone or anything out of the normal. Where can she be? I look through the maze, yelling her name, but no sound comes back. My phone starts vibrating in my pocket, and I pull it out quickly, thinking it is one of the guys; they found her. But no, it’s a text message from Abigail.
Attached to the message are coordinates to someplace out in the woods. I stop to think for a moment if I should tell someone or alert the guys, but if he is watching, I can’t risk Abigail getting hurt. I turn the location on my phone, playing it smart so if my brothers can't get ahold of me, then at the very least, they will find me. I start my way into the dark trees.
I arrive at a storage shed that is decent in size. A light flickers in the window, and I know they are inside. I go to place my hand on the door when it opens, and on the other side is a man I have never seen before. He is taller than me by a few inches. Dark quaffed hair, chiseled, muscular features, a five o’clock shadow, and tattoos sticking out of his shirt. He has the same outfit as me; if he wore the mask, he would pass for one of us. That must have been how he caught her. He had to be watching us for some time as we had these costumes planned for weeks now.
“Welcome, Parker, come on in,” he says, and I walk over the threshold. Abigail is tied by rope to a chair in the center of the room, and I rush over to her. She is passed out; her chest has been cut but not deep, just a flesh wound. I take the sleeve of my shirt to wipe off the blood, and underneath the red is the word Mine over her heart.
“You sick bastard!” I yell at him. “What did you do?”
“I simply claimed what is rightfully mine, Parker. Abigail never belonged to you or your friends. She was always meant to be mine. The theatrics are a bit much, but what can I say, I wanted her to remember that she belongs to me.”
“Wake up, Abby. Come on, bunny, wake up.” She begins to flutter her eyes open.
“Ahhh, such a sweet nickname. Too bad bunnies sometimes lose their heads,” the man chimes in.
“That was you? How long have you been stalking us? What do you want, you sick fuck?” I scowl.
“Your car, your bike, the rabbit, the windshield with blood, the football game,” He takes a bow, “Yours truly. My name is Sebastian Wolf. Pleased to meet you at last, Parker. I have to say not many have escaped death by my hands, but you have. However, you won't be so lucky tonight.”
“Leave him alone.” Abigail is barely able to speak.
“I’m sorry, canary, I can’t do that. You love him,” Sebastian says.
I turn to look at Abigail, her eyes filling with tears.
She loves me?
She’s never told me she loves me, and I have always known that I have been in love with her, but I was waiting until she said the words first.
“Sebastian, just take me, but leave him alone. Please, I beg you,” she cries out.
Sebastian waves the gun in his hands at me to move away from her, and I do as I am told. Standing up, he comes behind me, resting the gun on my shoulder so I can see it clear as day. “You hear that? She’s begging me.” He laughs. “Parker, what we have here is a lose-lose situation.” He taps the gun on my temple and walks around to face me, now leaning up against a workbench, playing with the gun in his hands. “You have two options: you can sacrifice yourself for Abigail so she can live. Granted, I will be taking her, and she will be with me for the rest of her life. Don’t worry, I will take excellent care of her. After all, I am the one who is truly in love with her.”
“Yeah, I see how well you take care of her.” Pointing to the blood still running down her chest.”
“It will heal, big deal,” he jokes.
“Option two is that I get to kill her right here, right now, and you have to watch the life drain out of her eyes. But then, Parker, you get to kill me. I will not live without her on this earth.”
This man is insane. There is no option here that is a good one. There is no option here that will result in us both getting out alive. All I can hope to do is buy us some time before Colin and Ryan find us and can help. All I can do is stall. I have to buy us some more time.
“You think you have this all figured out? Do you think you won’t get caught? In what world do younotget caught? We have friends and families!”
His face turns sinister, practically evil. “It wasn’t too hard getting Cindy out of the picture,” Abigail’s face flashes with horror. “Don’t worry, she’s not dead. I just convinced the board to give her a raise, and that’s why she’s away for training. As for your friends, I brought friends of my own tonight, and they are currently keeping them more than occupied. However, should you not comply, they have strict orders to kill them on sight.”
Fuck!“And what happens? Do you think they won't come looking for us? You think no one will come after you?”
He slowly walks over to a tarp on the other side of the room near the mowers and lawn equipment. Pulling it back, the smell hits us first. Abigail starts choking, and I begin to gag, so I cover my mouth. Two decaying bodies. One female and one male.
“Savanah here has been dead a while. She caught me by surprise at her party when I was watching you all. I slit her throat, and then Abigail let Ryan eat her out above her dead body under the bed. I watched from the closet.”
I look over to Abigail, who goes blank—just staring at Savanah. “And you know Brian? He was ordered to kill Ryan, but he messed up and hurt you instead, so the only logical thing was to kill him. Everyone will think that you two snuck off to make out, have sex, or whatever in this old shed when something went wrong, and it caught on fire. You two lovebirds were trapped helplessly inside. Everyone will think you’re dead.”
“You sick fucking bastard,” I seethe.
“Time is running out. What’s it going to be? Your life or hers?” He demands, tapping the gun against his skull.
I begin to bend down on my knees, placing my hands slowly behind my back. I look over to Abigail, who is staring at me, her heart breaking before me.
