“If you don’t hurry the fuck up, I’m going to fight you for it.” The strain in his voice told me he was lying.

“Please do,” I said, sliding my hand around to the meat of his ass, lifting him to ride my tip along his.

He shoved me but didn’t move me an inch. I rammed against him, slamming him into the rough bark. He grunted, grinding his hips against mine, part of him acting like he wanted to fuck me and the other like he might just fight me for it.

I hitched him higher, lining myself up. His breathing hitched while his leg tightened around me, urging me closer.

“Now who’s impatient?” I spit between us, rubbing the saliva over my cock, knowing it wasn’t enough, but it would have to do.

“I need to feel anything else.” He stared into my eyes and paused, his wolf as present as he was.

“Is it bad I get off on you using me?” But I still made him wait.

A single heartbeat passed before I shoved forward.

He let me get past his barrier, my tip inside him, before he used all his force to send me flying back. My guard down, I stumbled a few steps. My cock throbbing and dripping. He took a fighting stance.

“You waited too long. Now I want to fight.”

“So this is how it’s going to be? Okay.” I gave myself a stroke. “But I’m not going to be gentle when I pin you to the ground and take what I want.”

“If you get me.”

“When, lover, when.”

EIGHTEEN

DOMINIC

“If.” I over-enunciated the word, drawing it out so there was no mistake.

I wanted Vin to believe I’d make him fight for it. I couldn’t handle games. Not when it came to comfort. If he wouldn’t give it to me when asked, I’d get it in a fight. It might be an unhealthy coping mechanism, but we were too new to this to have anything else. So I’d fall back on how we’d been for years. The intensity of it. To feel his hands around my throat as he took what he wanted. The love in those possessive gestures.

“Dearest, how little you understand about what I let you have and what I give you.” He stalked toward me, and my wolf bucked against the binds in my mind.

The wolf knew there was a monster after me, and he wanted a piece.

My cock throbbed, aching to have that deadly mouth of his around my shaft.

“How much you underestimate wolves…as your kind has for years.”

We circled each other, knees bent. Not a sound for miles. The forest had emptied; all the animals crept back into their holes while we hunted each other. My fingers ached where claws tried to inch their way from my flesh.

“I don’t pretend or hide what I am, Dominic. Not a day in my life. I know what you are and what we monsters are capable of.” His smile widened, showing off his fangs. My skin prickled.

“You do, and it’s sweet, too. You put on this refined exterior. From the way you dress, down to your Parisian accent.” It might have been mean, but it was true, and I wanted him angry. I needed him to lose his temper.

We inched closer, just out of arm’s reach now. The static between us drew me toward him, but I kept away until I found an opening, eyes fixed on one another.

“Are you any different with the empire you’ve built?” Vin’s voice didn’t change. He kept his cool exterior. “You pander to these people who come spend money on your cards, your brothel. You put on fights for them. Pretend you’re a monster while putting on a show, but you won’t harm them.”

I hated that he was right. I’d gone from one type of captivity to another. Trading my metal chains with ones to the land and people. “Like you don’t for your antiquities. You sweet talk clients and help them steal from others.”

“I pander to other monsters. If you think there aren’t human monsters, you are quite wrong. There are plenty of monsters without claws.”

“What’s your point?” I wanted one of us to make a move. To tackle the other into the hard ground and take what we both so desperately needed.

“Stop pretending. Even with me, you hold back. Let yourself be. Let me have the wolf. You are the same. I want all of you, Dominic, and I won’t stop until I’m satisfied.” He dropped his hands and stood straight, moonlight filtering through the trees, illuminating the lines of his body.
