“Will you mark me if I mark you?” I asked just as softly.

His eyes sprung open, and a wash of emotion crossed his face. “Can I?”

“Wolves mark each other. I want it, too.” I needed it.

“I’m not a wolf,” he said, like I hadn’t realized.

“You have fangs that will pierce my flesh,” I said in a sarcastic tone.

He pressed his lips and stared at me. “Will it be the same?”

“We aren’t what my people demand, and we never will be. But I want your mark if you’re getting mine.” I’d never said anything with so much conviction in my life. “All or nothing.”

A smile slowly spread over his lips. “Deal.”

“I promise.”I held out my hand to shake on it.

He grabbed it and pulled me into his arms. “After, then. I want it. I don’t want to wait any longer.”

“Gods, we can’t even have a long engagement, can we? You’re just dragging me down the aisle.” I surprised myself by getting the words out without laughing.

“Your days might be numbered, or so you claim. Why would I wait?”

I brushed my lips over his, cupping the column of his neck, my pinky sitting just where my teeth would pierce. “After it is, if we survive it.”

“Are you two dumbasses ready?” Raf asked, breaking the moment.

“I’m ready.” Gabe rubbed his hands together.

“What’s all this?” Laura drank in the scene. My second was a beast of a wolf, all bite and no bark. She’d kill you in your sleep before you knew she was near. A rare all-white wolf.

“I’m sure you know Vin,” I said because we’d had enough conversations about my mate. As my second, she couldn’t be in the dark about what I faced.

“If he’s here…” She cut herself off.

“Yes,” I confirmed.

“Well, this will make for an interesting night.” She laughed, and I was glad she wasn’t mad at me.

“Damn, she’s easy. No wonder you made her your second.” Rafael’s tone was playful, but it felt like there was an edge to it.

I knew he hated that I’d picked her, but when I did, we’d needed stability in the pack. “She’s supportive. There’s a difference.”

Raf rolled his eyes. “I’m supportive, but I’ll tell you when you’re being stupid.”

“I tell him. In private.” Laura grinned.

Az shoved Rafael out of the way. “Don’t listen to him. He’s mad you don’t look at him twice.”

“Gods, Az, time and place.” Gabe scrubbed a hand over his face.

“If I have to die next to these two, I’m coming back to haunt your ass, Dom,” Laura said, crossing her arms over her chest.

“No one is dying tonight.” I unwound myself from Vin. “Let’s do this.”
