“Where do we go from here, Vin? We have an unknown number of werewolves wanting my head, someone stealing my kind’s blood for unknown purposes, and a bond we don’t understand.” He sounded defeated, and I didn’t like it. His emotions tangled, shared with his wolf more than his human side.

I took him into my arms, finally able to give him back some of what he’d given me tonight and take care of him. I wrapped my arms around his middle, pressing my chest to his back as my lips found the side of his neck. “Vargr.”

He snarled.

“I bet your eyes are black right now.” I mused over his skin.

“I don’t like this bond,” he said, but amusement came through it anyway. What a strange side effect, being able to read his tones so much better.

“I like it immensely.”

“I already share my mind with a monster. One is enough.” His voice was light as he wrapped an arm around my back.

“He’s not a monster.” I stroked my fingers through the hair above his cock. “But I am, so you only have one monster in your mind.”

He scoffed. “I don’t know what this thing is you two have, but I won’t tolerate you teaming up against me.”

I gasped playfully. “Whatever in the world would make you think I’d do such a thing.”

“Because you two are already too close, and I don’t know how it happened. Am I sleep wolfing and I don’t know it?” He hugged me tighter to him, and it almost felt like the entire world wasn’t against us.

“You do, and you bark in your sleep. I had to get a translation app on my phone. It’s called ‘how to speak werewolf.’”

He turned on me, glaring, but the bond told me he hid his amusement. “If this is your plot to get me to use my phone, it’s not going to work.”

“It would be to your benefit. That’s all I’m saying, Dominic.”

“Sure, sure.” He slipped his arms around my neck. “And nothing to do with the tracking app you installed on it.”

“I didn’t install anything.”

His brow ticked up.

“Tracking is pre-installed on the phone,” I said, pressing my lips to his.

“Semantics.” He huffed. “We need a game plan, and we need one now. Something in me says all of this is linked, and I can’t put it together.”

“I have the same feeling.” I’m glad he did. I wouldn’t have to sound insane trying to connect the two in ways I didn’t quite comprehend yet. I’d learned in my long life to trust my instinct. Instinct was usually your brain’s way of telling you something buried in your memories made sense of it all, but wasn’t as readily accessible as you needed to work it out yet.

“I don’t think this is going to end well for either of us.” Dominic dropped his face, pressing his forehead to my lips.

“Why do you say that, my love?” I asked.

“I’m missing something. I can feel it. More so now than before. All the events that led us here. There is a bigger picture, and I can’t figure it out.”

“Of course there is, but that doesn’t mean we won’t figure it out.” I had my own assumptions about the blood after being hit with the bond.

“I think the vampires are involved, and I think this puts you in danger as much as I am.”

My upper lip curled into a snarl. “What are you saying, Dominic?”

“I think by the end of this, you’re going to have to choose.”

TWENTY-SIX

VINKETTIN

Dominic’s words stayed with me for days.
