“Look at Dante,” Beau said. “He and Mila are working out great.”

I shouldered my gym bag. “I don’t want to discuss this.”

“No, you’re just going to keep beating up innocent punching bags,” Kav said. “And watching Macy when you think she isn’t looking. You really think what you feel will just disappear?”

If I ignored it long enough, it would. “Yeah.”

Kav rolled his eyes to the ceiling.

“You aren’t the poster child for committed relationships, Mr. Playboy.”

My brother shrugged. “I like women. But I don’t make promises I can’t keep, and I don’t cheat.”

“You don’t keep the same woman around long enough to cheat,” Beau said.

“Whose side are you on?”

“Look guys, drop it—” My cell phone beeped. I pulled it out and saw a text from Lola. “I’ve got to go. Lola has to run some errands, so I need to get Daisy.”

“Colton, ask your sassy office manager, sorry, I mean assistant, out for dinner,” Kav said.

“No.” I shouldered past them.

“How long until sexual frustration drives him crazy?” Kav asked Beau.

“I give him a week.”

“Too optimistic.” I could feel Kav’s gaze on my shoulder blades. “Three days.”

I shot them the finger, then headed out of the gym.

I was keeping my hands—and everything else—off Macy Underwood.

MACY

Iwas playing some music and singing—and okay, dancing—as I did some work in the office.

Whenever Colt was out, I liked to play some tunes. This afternoon, I really needed some upbeat music. My elbows were stinging like crazy and if I stopped, I could still hear the roar of that truck as it got closer to me.

Stop thinking about it, Macy. You’re fine.

I threw myself into belting out the chorus of the song when the music cut off. I spun to find Colton and Daisy standing there, both wearing identical scowls.

I bit the inside of my mouth to stop from smiling. It was funny to see Colt’s level 3 scowl on his daughter’s cute face.

“Hey, you two. How was the museum this morning, Daisy?”

“Good.” She scratched her arm. “How are your boo boos?”

“I’m doing all right.”

“I need to head out,” Colt said. “I’m meeting some informants.”

I knew he cultivated strong relationships with a network of informants. It was something that helped him be so successful at his job.

“I can come too,” Daisy said in a huffy tone.
