I had no idea what to do with a human. Maybe they weren’t that different from us.

What would you do if she was your—

No. I couldn’t even think like that because Hannah would go back to Sunset Springs as soon as she was able, and onto a reality show to find a mate.

And I’d be watching the contestants that competed to win her heart. Very, very closely.

I growled.

No need to be envious of a beast who hadn’t even come into the picture yet when this woman was right in front of me.

My fingers were too big for the tiny zipper on her jacket. Zippers weren’t an issue for me normally since I didn’t need clothes in my natural form, not that any would fit me anyway. I struggled to take her coat off, being careful not to disturb her.

A moan escaped her lips. My heart stuttered in my chest. What if she didn’t want to be here? What if she tried to run?

She snuggled against my pillow, like the noise was all part of a dream. As far as I knew, I could be dreaming. Hallucinating this whole thing in my lonely mountainside cavern.

No, this woman was real. And I needed to take care of her until I could get her home.

She would get cold fast, but I’d be able to keep her warmer with skin-to-skin contact.

Eventually, she’d wake up and I had to convince her to stay here with me.

Why did I have to get this opportunity when I was stuck in this form? Maybe I could convince Bibi to let me go on stage, provided it was warm enough when Hannah’s episode started—

What was I thinking? Like I could compete against those more common shifters. The ones that cleaned up real nice on camera and made the women go crazy.

I…wasn’t like that.

I kept to myself, and stayed away from human society.

Would Hannah even want me?

She was unique—beautiful—with purple hair only on one side of her head, and as I carefully slid her jacket away from her body, I admired her curves. She wore a sweatshirt and a pair of leggings. I didn’t have the courage to take those off, so I only removed her boots.

Another moan, but this one didn’t sound panicked. It sounded content.

Good.

I put a fur pelt over her, and climbed into bed next to her, taking a moment to relish being so close to her. To inhale her scent.

She reached for my arm, pulling me in close to her and snuggling against it. I held my breath, seeing if she was awake.

No. Instead, she settled against my arm, and a smile played on her lips.

I could get used to this.

Chapter Three

Hannah

I couldn’t move.

I was in that fuzzy state where I knew all the things I was supposed to be doing, and the absolute last moment to arrive on time for work had already passed, and then I realized it was okay, because it was a snow day. Then a massive pile of snow whumped into my car, and I was jolted out of the dream.

My eyes snapped open.

Where the hell was I?
