“Come on. Come with me Saturday. Who knows, you might actually enjoy yourself.”

“Don’t make me laugh.” I tug her toward the exit. “Let’s get out of here.”

“You sure you don’t want to stick around for just a little bit longer?” she teases. “Looks like the three leeches might break out in a fistfight over who gets to sit next to Archer at the table. Could get real interesting.”

“Remind me later that I need to find a new best friend,” I grumble.

“Adding it to my mental calendar as we speak. Oh wait, shit... It just got deleted. Too bad.” She pouts out her bottom lip. “Looks like you’re stuck with me.”

I shake my head with a laugh.

For as infuriating as Alina can be at times, I wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world. I’m just not going to tell her that. She has a big enough head as it is.

Chapter Six

Archer

“How was the game yesterday? Did you win?” Rory continues to work on today’s sketch, only looking up at me when she absolutely has to.

“We did.” I keep my answers short, not wanting to move too much. She’s already snipped at me twice today for not sitting still. She’s always a little standoffish, but today she seems even more so. “You weren’t there?” I already know the answer, but I ask anyway. Nearly the entire student body showed out, but clearly, she was not among them.

“No.” She answers with a slight shake of her head.

“Not a fan of football?”

“Not really.”

“Is there a reason?”

“I just don’t get the point. Guys throwing each other to the ground and banging into each other all in the pursuit of getting a ball into an extremely big target. Seems kinda stupid.”

I don’t take offense. Why would I? I can’t expect someone who is clearly not well-versed in the game to understand the point.

“It’s supposed to be entertaining. You know, fun for fans to watch. That’s kind of the whole point.”
