“I see,” she says, placing her chin on her fist. “You only get mad at me calling you that in front of Tristan, hmmm. Veryinteresting.”

“Well, I don’t want him to think you’re being serious.”

“I’m not,” she tells me.

“Okay.” I nod, though I didn’t need the confirmation. “I have to work, some of my clients have left me messages.” I take the opportunity to speak up. It’s also true, but I need some space as well. There’s a lot to think about.

“I’ll take you home,” Harrison says immediately.

“You don’t have to—"

“I want to,” he cuts me off.

“All right,” I sigh and relent, because I may want space, but I won’t turn down a bit more of his time.

We finish up breakfast, then climb into a black car this time. Matt closes the door after Harrison, and that’s when I realize there’s a privacy screen. I bet the change of car was intentional.

As soon as the car starts moving, Harrison lunges at me, and we don’t stop kissing until the door opens in front of my building.

“I’ll see you tomorrow for the game?” he asks me before we get out.

“Yeah,” is all I can manage. He leaves me with a raging hard-on in the middle of the sidewalk and I can only shake my head at the way my life’s changed.

I don’t geta chance to think about anything that happened in the last day because I get stuck dealing with some minor scheduling issues for Corinne Williams, a rising young actress who we’ve represented since the start of her career a year ago. When I finally hang up on the last phone call with her agent, the knock on the door I’ve been waiting for arrives.

I open the door silently and let Zoe in.

“You’re gonna speak to me now?”

“Sure,” I say. I got over her improvisation act right around the time Harrison kissed me for the first time. I also would’ve gotten over it quickly if I hadn’t found myself dating a gorgeous older man, I’ve always been too forgiving with her.

“Oh thank God!” she cries dramatically then flops on my couch. “Look, I’m sorry I sprung it on you, but it was the best option, and I’m sure it’ll be very beneficial for us and for JPR.”

“Yes, it probably will be, but now I’m actually dating Harrison, so hopefully it’ll also lead to me being happy,” I say just to shock her, and boy do I shock her.

She straightens, “What?” she screams. I laugh at her, I can’t help it. “Oh, you’re kidding just to mess with me.”

“I definitely wanted to mess with you, but I’m not kidding. Harrison and I really are dating, and I spent the night at his house, he dropped me off a few hours ago.”

“For real?” I nod. “But what about the contract?”

“Oh, we’re still going to go along with the plan we had before, we’re just also dating.”

“Okaaay, I mean you have always liked them a bit older, and he’s a hottie for sure, so I don’t blame you, but are you sure this is a good idea?” The only reason why I don’t tell her to fuck off and stay out of my business is because I know she’s worried about me, not only about JPR and how this could affect it.

“I mean it’s as good an idea as any, I suppose. Look, I’ve been with a lot of men,” she screws her face into a grimace, “I know what I want in a man, and he showed me he has it, so I’m not going to let the opportunity of finding out go.”

“All right, and you deserve it. After all the men who you’ve given a shot to, I gotta say Harrison Crawford is definitely a step up, and I’m not even talking about all his billions, though I’m sure you don’t mind them, exactly.”

I roll my eyes at her. “I’m not a gold digger,” I protest. “I like the security of money, and I’d never want to depend on anyone else for it. I want to have my own. Yes, I want a lot of it, but that’s called ambition.”

“I know, I know, I just meant, a billionaire—and it doesn’t matter that most of it was inherited, we both know he’s made more than enough on his own—has to value money, right? He has tolikeit, so that’s something you have in common.”

We also like the right things in bed to be perfectly compatible, but I don’t say that. Zoe doesn’t need to hear it.

My phone blares with the alarm I have set up for every Saturday. “Time to go,” I tell her.
