“I’ve been there for months. He has no idea who works there,” Della says. “And you can’t be on the street, Ever. You wouldn’t last five minutes out there.”

I blink, confused. “What do you mean, I wouldn’t last five minutes?”

She hesitates.

“Della, tell me,” I quietly order.

“He’s offered a reward for you. If anyone sees you, theywillcall him,” Della says.

“So I’ll just keep my head down, and maybe—”

“Fifty thousand dollars in cash to whoever tells Lawrence where his omega is. No questions asked. That’sthe reward, Ever,” Della interrupts. “Someone already jumped on a girl in the street and sat on her because she looked like you. Broke her arm. Keeping your head down wouldn’t work. At least, not well.”

Fifty thousand dollars?

I stare at Della. “That’s insane.”

“People are actively looking for you.” Della glances at Rune, Cian, and Kylian. “Maybe it’s best you stay here. At least for the short term.”

I didn’t think Lawrence would be so determined to get me back. I assumed he might be, but to know he’s promising that kind of money—putting a literalpriceon my head—is almost too much to process.

The money had to come from his father, which means his staff will be looking for me as well as Lawrence’s.

So I can’t leave. Not now.

Because Della is right. With that kind of money—life-changing amounts of money—people aren’t going to stop looking for me anytime soon.

Still numb, I barely react when Della pulls me into a quick, hard hug. “Stay here. I’ll see if there’s any gossip in the house, and I’ll be back soon. I’ll try not to fall over the wall next time.”

Before I can stop her, she’s rushing away.

Rune grips her arm, halting her. “Ask Nancy to let you out. She can show you the back entrance. Use that.”

And then it’s just us again.

I’d intended to leave.Truly.But now, with my heat on its way, a handful of suppressants that aren’t working like they should, and Lawrence’s massive reward, leaving might not be an option.

Ever.

Chapter36

Everleigh

Rune gives me a long look and then nods firmly as if he’s come to a decision. An important one. “Come on, cher. Time for a bit of cozy.”

He turns away, and I blink at his back.

Time for cozy?

Did I hear him right?

I’d been expecting him to decide I was more trouble than I was worth, especially after Lawrence’s sudden appearance. Not cozy. Whatever that’s supposed to mean.

When I don’t move, Kylian walks over to me, takes my hand, and tugs. “You heard the man.”

“Just need to make a quick stop,” Kylian says to Cian and Rune when we step into the hallway.

He leads me down to my room, opens the door, and his eyes dip to my still damp clothes. “You need to change into something comfortable.”
