We could have been spending the last hour snuggling with Everleigh in our home theater. Instead, we’re in the office discussing whether any of the many free clinics in the city are safe, and about my failure to get the suppressants Everleigh needs.
Lawrence’s hefty reward has complicated things. The dealer I met earlier seemed far too interested in why I would need the pills than the thousands I was prepared to pay for them.
Hali sticks her nose in and sweeps her gaze around the room before her face falls. “Never mind.”
She’s backing out again when I call after her, “What is it, Hali?”
“Nothing. Just thought Everleigh was with you,” she says.
And then she’s gone again, pulling the door closed behind her.
We go back to our conversation about free heat clinics in the city, but I’m distracted. From Rune’s and Kylian’s lingering glances at the door, so are they.
“Hali, can you come here a minute?” Kylian yells out.
Seconds later, she appears.
“Why would you think Everleigh was with us? Isn’t she in her room?” Kylian asks, frowning.
Hali shakes her head. “When I went to take her up some food, it sounded like she was in the shower. But when I went back up, the shower was off and she wasn’t in there.”
A frown brackets Rune’s brows as he heaves himself out of his chair. “You checked?”
Hali nods. “I know you said to give her space, but I knocked first, and we’ve been getting on so well and I thought—”
“It’s okay.” Rune waves off her apology. “It’s alphas she has a problem with.”
Kylian and I get to our feet, trailing Rune and Hali to the door. Until we know Everleigh is okay, none of us is going to be able to concentrate on work.
“Do you think something is wrong?” Hali asks as we file out of the office and up the stairs.
“After that visit from Lawrence and her sister?” I snort. “I think it’s best we make sure.”
“By invading omega territory?” Kylian raises his brow.
Rune reaches her door first.
“Everleigh?” After giving it a perfunctory knock, he waits for a minute. We all wait.
When there’s no response, Rune swings it open and steps aside. “We are not going to invade omega territory. Hali can make sure Everleigh isn’t hurt in her nest or hasn’t fallen in the bathroom. It’s still her space, and until she gives us the go ahead to enter, we stay out.”
I nod and so does Kylian.
We watch Hali enter the room. She knocks on the closet door, calling out, “Everleigh?”
Silence.
Hali calls out again, but when there’s still no response, she shrugs and heads for the bathroom. “Maybe she fell asleep in the bath?”
After all this knocking and shouting? I have my doubts.
Closing her hand around the doorknob, she shoves it open.
As one, we take a step back from the doorway when Everleigh’s sweetly alluring omega pheromones drift toward us. It has the impact of Everleigh closing her hand around my cock. I’m hard.Instantly.
