The footsteps stop right beside me. I still can’t breathe with all this tear-soaked silk clogging my nose, mouth, and eyes. Every muscle in my body is tense and the sound of my heartbeat is a thunderous roar in my head.

Gentle fingers tuck a strand of hair behind my ear and a male voice says, “Little omega, can we take you away from here?”

Rune?

I almost lift my head.

This isn’t real. This isn’t happening. I must have passed out from burying my face in this silk pillow because that voice sounds like Rune and it can’t be him. Not here.

“Everleigh?”

My entire body shakes as I press my face harder into the sheets. This isn’t Rune. He doesn’t know I’m here. He couldn’t have found me in time to save me.

This isn’t real.

Suddenly, my left arm is free. And then my right.

I still don’t believe it. Still don’twantto believe it as two gentle, but insistent tugs free my legs from the bed.

A large male hand gently cradles the back of my head. That same warm, achingly familiar voice I struggle to believe is Rune, says, “How about we take you home, cher? You look like you might be in need of a little Pack Ashe cozy.”

I rip my face from the bed.

No one knows about Pack Ashe cozy but Rune, Cian, and Kylian.

My vision is so blurred I can barely see, but even through my tears, I see them. And I smell them. They’re here. Cian and Kylian are standing at the foot of my bed, wearing almost identical relieved expressions stamped on their faces.

I choke back a sob.

This is real. This is actually real.

Rune is perched on the side of my bed, his smile so familiar that I fling myself at him, wrapping my arms and legs around him as I tuck my face against his throat. “You came! You’re here.”

His arms slide around me and it feels like home.

He kisses the top of my head. “We’re here, cher.”

A sob bursts from between my lips and I bite back the need to cry, needing answers as I drag his apple pie and freshly baked bread scent deep into my lungs. “How?”

“The auction had already started when we arrived. Buying you was the safest way we could get to you without someone hurting you if we forced our way in,” Cian says.

I peel my face from Rune’s throat and turn. Kylian has moved to the door and is peering out into the hallway. Cian is still standing at the foot of the bed, smiling faintly at me.

I don’t know how this auction works, but now Pack Ashe owns me.

I swallow. “Bought me?”

Will they take me to the Omega Institute and make me sign the register like Lawrence did so in the eyes of the law I will belong to them?

Rune taps my nose, and I blink, refocusing on him as I rub it.

“Haven’t you been listening to us all this time? Not to keep, cher. To set you free.” His eyes focus on my temple and his expression darkens. “Sorry it took us so long.”

He kisses me on the spot that still throbs, and I wonder how big of a bruise I must have for him to be so angry.

“You were just in time.” My eyes widen when I remember something I can’t believe I forgot. “Della!Lawrence said—”

“Della is back at the house. We got the impression this disgusting club was men only, and we didn’t have a good enough reason to bring her. But she’s safe,” Rune assures me.
