Them.

I return her smile, mine a more watery version of hers. “I am. Truly.”

“Then what would we be mad about?” Rune asks. “I happen to see it as an alpha's responsibility to spoil his omega.”

I turn around to face him.

“But I’m not…”Your omega.I can’t bring myself to finish my sentence. It would be a lie.

Cian, Kylian, and Rune feel like my alphas.

Not the same way Lawrence treated me like a thing to control and mold into what he wanted. Pack Ashe feel like mine in the sense that we…click. We belong together.

They feel like everything I would ever want or need.

Mine.

“Maybe we could visit?” Cian suggests.

My heart hurts and it won’t stop.

“Maybe when my mom isn’t as shy around alphas,” I offer.

Rune smiles and nods. “We’d like that, Everleigh.”

But I don’t think it will happen. They don’t think it will either. They’ll return to their business because I’m no longer around to distract them from it, and they’ll forget about me.

I peek at Mom, hoping she’s no longer so terrified Pack Ashe will grab me and cage me the way Sloane caged her. If anything, her fear has grown. She’s gripping the door so hard her fingers have turned white, as if to stop herself from rushing over to snatch me away from Rune, Kylian, and Cian.

She doesn’t trust them anywhere near me.

Maybe she never will.

My eyes return to Rune.

We’re staring at each other, and none of us is making a move to go anywhere. Rune’s cell phone vibrates, and he fishes it out of his pocket, glancing down at it.

I take a step back. “Work?”

It’s already started. They’ll be busy with work, and they’ll soon forget all about me.

Rune nods and tucks his phone away. “A new project. We’re chartering new grounds with this one.”

“Well, good luck.” I try for a smile. “Though you probably won’t need it. Everything you touch turns to platinum.”

My smile wobbles almost immediately because I want to be with them, but I can’t. Mom needs me and she can’t be around any alphas, not after what Sloane did to her.

“Be happy, Everleigh,” Cian says quietly.

I nod again, making myself take another step back. Someone must’ve attached an invisible elastic band between me and these three alphas. It keeps pulling at me to go back to them. “I will. You too. And… well, enjoy movie night.”

“There’s always an open invitation for you, little omega,” Rune tells me.

I nod when I don’t think I will. If I keep popping in and out of their lives like that, it will feel too much like I’m being torn in two. More than I feel like I am already. I need my mom, and she needs me.

But I need Cian, Kylian, and Rune too.

They slowly back up, as if they have their own elastic band pulling them back to me.
