It really hurts.

I want so badly to stay with them. But Mom’s hand tightens around me, her fingers digging into my arm as she tries to pull me away from the three alphas I think I’ve fallen in love with.

“How about your mom looks around since it’s about to be her home, too?” Cian is eyeing me closely. I don’t think he missed the fact I’m not as happy about this as I thought I would be. Or should be. “The security code for the alarm is on the fob. It’s there for now, but I’d memorize the code or probably change it and not keep it with the keys.”

Makes sense for security reasons.

I nod. “Mom, do you want to go and look around? I won’t be a minute.”

Her visible reluctance to leave me alone with Cian, Kylian, and Rune for fear of what they might do to me is painful.

I offer her a small smile. “They helped me, promised me they would let me go, and they helped me find you. They won’t hurt me or you.”

Even though it’s clear from her deeply furrowed brow that she still doesn’t trust them, she nods. “Okay, Everleigh. I’ll look around.”

Probably only the entryway and no farther, so she can continue to keep an eye on me.

She takes the keys from me and heads toward the house, clutching her sketchpad. I watch her unlock the door, waiting until the alarm shrieks and she’s turned it off.

Only then do I turn back to face Kylian, Rune, and Cian. I want more of an explanation about why it sounds like they bought me a house, but there are things I want to say that I hadn’t wanted to with Mom right next to me. I have a feeling those words will hurt her.

“This morning…” I speak slowly. “I was going to tell you that I wanted to stay with you.”

None of them look surprised.

Cian nods. “We thought you might.”

I stare at them. “And you still told me about my mom? You could have lied, and I would have never known. You said you wanted me to stay and I would have if you hadn’t—”

Cian steps forward, frames my face with both hands, and kisses me. “This is what you want, and it’s what you need.”

Rune nods at the house behind me. “Think of it as an extension of omega territory. We’d always intended for the house to belong to you, so you’ll find the deed and all the paperwork in the office with your name on it. But it has two bedrooms and a big garden. No reason it can’t be yours and your mom’s too.”

“We figured you needed something a little bigger. One room is too small to call a territory, huh?” Kylian flashes me a grin that has something missing.

I laugh as my eyes fill with tears, and then the laughter stops as suddenly as it started. “My mom needs me. She—”

“Wants nothing to do with alphas?” Rune interrupts.

I hesitate and then nod.

“We noticed,” Cian adds. “And we thought things might play out this way. We hoped it wouldn’t, but we thought it might. It’s why we had Devin meet us at the clinic.”

I clear my throat. “I don’t know when I’ll see you again. You’ve all been so kind to me, but—”

Kylian steps up to me and nudges Cian aside to claim my lips in a brief kiss. “Your mom needs you. Just you, not three big alphas hanging around to remind her of what Sloane did to her. We get it, little omega.”

“And you’re not mad?” I ask because I’ve never known an alpha to give up what they want so easily, and they’ve made it more than clear that they want me.

“Are you happy, cher?” Rune rumbles.

A door swings open behind me, and I turn.

Mom is hovering in the doorway. She meets my eye and smiles. I have my mom right there. I can walk over there and hug her for the next hour if I want. She’s alive when I hadn’t dared to hope she would be.

Because of these three alphas standing in front of me. They made the impossible possible.

But I think it’s going to cost me something I’m struggling to believe I can do without in my life.
