How the Institute is going to emerge from this scandal—or if they’ll even emerge from it—remains to be seen. If they don’t survive the fallout, I can’t say I won’t be unhappy. “I’d say it’s time something changed.”

Kylian raises his brow. “You’re interested in politics, Cian?”

I shake my head. “Politics? No. Just interested in making sure Everleigh—and omegas in the city—are treated like everyone else. The way they always should have been.”

Rune lifts his hand in an imaginary toast. “I’ll drink to that. Ky, go get ready. The sooner you’re dressed, the sooner we get through this party, and the sooner I can come home and burn this tie.”

Chapter64

Everleigh

“I’m not sure about this dress, Della. It’s kind of poofy.” I take in my reflection and frown as I smooth my hands down the front of the full skirt, trying to flatten it.

Big, pink,andpoofy.

The top half with pale pink lace and delicate sleeves is pretty. It’s the bottom half I have a problem with.

And the lace.

I didn’t think a dress could have too much lace, but I think this one might.

“You look like a princess, Everleigh,” Mom says softly from her spot beside my window.

I smile at her. “It’s the quintessential princess dress.”

When Mom invited Della to dinner after I broke down a couple of days ago, Della demanded to be in charge of getting a dress for me. I told her I would only agree if she promised to take the credit card that Pack Ashe gave me and didn’t hesitate to use it to get anything she needed.

She didn’t want to. I refused to let her pick out a dress for me to wear for the party Cian, Rune, and Kylian are throwing at a fancy hotel to celebrate the first Ever Safe opening soon. While it was my idea to surprise them there tonight, I hadn’t planned on wearing something that would attract so much attention, and this dress will.

I think it’s the reason Della picked it out.

Della also came back with curlers to do my hair.

I’m not sure how I feel about curls. But Della took the card, and she promised to use it to buy anything she needed. If it means big curls to go along with this big poofy dress, so be it.

Della steps up behind me, her expression determined. “I am. This will be your Cinderella moment.”

I arch a brow as I turn to face her. “Cinderella moment?”

When Della flops dramatically back onto my bed, clasping her hands together, I can’t help but smile. “Picture it. They’re at the party, bored out of their minds. The women are trying to catch their attention, ’cause you know, three hot alphas.”

I lose my smile because I’m not liking this mental image anymore.

“And then you turn up in this stunning dress. You appear at the top of the staircase.” Della pauses. Probably to add drama rather than the need to take a breath. “The music stops—”

“Why would the music stop?” I interrupt, wanting to tease her. “Did the musicians in this Cinderella moment decide to take a bathroom break?”

Mom snorts with amusement.

Della pushes herself up to glare at me. “They just stop. And no, they do not go on a bathroom break. Stop ruining my moment.”

“Yourmoment.” I nod somberly. “Of course.”

Grinning, Della flops back onto my bed and continues, “The music stops. You glide down the staircase. The crowd parts and—”

“Is the crowd in on this too?” I cross my arms as I fight back my need to smile. “Because how would they know to part unless someone told them in advance?”

“Ever…” Della growls.
