I grin at Mom, and she shakes her head. She might not trust Della yet, but Della is Della. Since she turned up for dinner, my sister’s been slowly winning Mom over the way she eventually does with everyone.

“Okay, I’m listening. The crowd parts…”

“Rune, Cian, and Kylian see you in this stunning dress. They drift toward you like you’re their fantasy woman because, hashtag, you are. You continue down the staircase. But when you get near the bottom, you stumble.Oh no.The crowd gasps. Cian, Rune, and Kylian gasp the loudest of all. They leap forward and catch you in their—”

“Who catches me? All three of them or—” I laugh as I dodge the pillow Della launches at my head. “I’m joking. It’s a romantic moment. I get it.”

“Not just a romantic moment,” Della says, surprisingly serious. “It’s the moment you choose each other. The moment the rest of the world ceases to matter because all you see is them, and all they see is you.”

“When did you become a romantic?” I ask. Della was always content with being a beta. She had no romantic ideals about perfuming and becoming an omega princess. Not like me.

“I’m not,” Della says, “but I’d have to be blind not to see the romance in what happened with you. Pack Ashe saved you from Lawrence, cared for you, made you believe in love again, and then let you go because that’s what they thought you needed. I see it. And I like them.”

“You do?” I ask, glad she does.

She nods firmly. “Also, because I’m sure they killed Lawrence.”

“Della!” I dart a rapid glance at Mom to see how she’s reacting to Della’s accusation. It’s one I’ve also started to believe. Especially after what Hali revealed about Kylian.

Mom crosses over to me and takes both of my hands. “If they are responsible for ensuring the man who hurt my daughter never hurts another person again, then I think I can learn to like them, too.”

She pulls me into a hug that I return.

We haven’t talked about what will happen after I surprise Cian, Rune, and Kylian at the party later tonight, but I hope we can figure things out soon. I don’t want to leave Mom alone before she’s ready to be alone. I also don’t want to be apart from Cian, Rune, and Kylian anymore, either.

“What if they’ve decided they want another omega?” I ask, terrified.

What if I’ve given them time to realize they want a different kind of omega after all?

Della snorts. “As if.”

Mom pulls away from me to give me a reassuring smile. “They wantyou, Everleigh. It’s time you showed them that you want them as well.”

I return her smile. “What about you? I’ll be with them and you’ll be—”

She kisses my forehead. “Iwill be fine. Better, I think, knowing my daughter is happy.”

“Okay.” Excitement churns in my gut at what I intend to do. Although I was joking through Della’s romanticized idea of what will happen later, a part of me hopes things will happen just like she says.

“I’ll heat up the curlers.” Della bounces to her feet.

I’d hoped she’d forgotten about that.

“There’s something I need to do outside first,” I say.

Della frowns. “Outside?”

“I won’t be long,” I assure her.

“Oh, okay,” Della says. “I’ll dig through your makeup and see what would work with the dress.”

“Mom, can you try and rein Della in while I’m not here, please?” I lift my poofy skirt for effect. “She likes to go big or go home.”

Mom smiles and nods. “I’ll see what I can do.”

Getting downstairs involves waddling. But I make it down, smiling when I overhear Mom asking Della if three different types of mascara for added volume might be going too far.

Outside, I release a grateful sigh that it’s dark enough no one is around to see me wandering down the street in bare feet and a big pink dress. I head for the navy car parked a few feet away.
