“Thisphone, yes.”

“So it’s not always you watching me?” I ask slowly.

“No, it’s not.” There’s a strange light in his eyes, maybe a hint of amusement, maybe something else that makes me think he wants me to ask who else does the watching.

It’s on the tip of my tongue to ask whether it’s his pack, or if my instincts that made me think Kylian might’ve been out here watching me were right.

Della suddenly yells, “Hurry up, Ever. I still need to curl your hair, and it needs to bebig.”

“Oh, God,” I mutter as I turn away. “Please don’t let it be as big as this dress.”

A male snort of amusement rumbles from the big, hulking alpha.

I stop. Though not because of the snort. When I swing around to face him, he hasn’t moved. “How much would it cost to hire you?”

He cocks his head. “You want tohireme?”

I nod. “Cian, Rune, and Kylian gave me money.”

Currently, we have over fifty thousand dollars sitting in our checking account.

Doing nothing.

I think it should do some good.

“They gave me more money than I could ever need. I can pay you fifty thousand dollars to find someone,” I explain.

He doesn’t even blink at the amount. Is it too high? Not high enough?

“Who?”

I hesitate. “Have you been watching the news about the omegas?”

His expression turns blank, though anger briefly glitters in his gaze. “I have.”

“The woman I want you to find is called Resa. She’s an omega like me.” I pause again, not sure how much I want to tell him. I figure the more he knows, the more helpful it will be. If he agrees. “But she’s pregnant.”

The alpha's expression doesn’t change.

He isn’t refusing, so I take it as a sign to continue. “She was being held in a cage in the Asylum club, like me. When Cian, Rune, and Kylian freed me, she wasn’t there. I don’t know how much you charge, but I imagine it’s a lot if you’re the best in the city. If one of the alpha families has her, it will be even harder to find her. How much would a job like that cost?”

“A job like that would be expensive. Significantly higher than fifty grand.”

When he swings away from me, I wish I hadn’t told him so much.

Does he not want to cross any of the families? Or should I have offered him more money?

I take a step toward him. “How about—”

“I didn’t finish.” He pauses with his hand on the door. “We’re already working the job for free. We’ll find your friend. Enjoy your night, Ms. Deane, and I’ll watch over your mother for you.”

He gets in the car, slamming the door shut behind him.

I don’t have to ask who is responsible for Pack Lucas continuing the search for Resa.

Pack Ashe.

One day I’ll stop being surprised by all the ways they think to not only take care of me but the omegas in the city.
