I blink at him. “You left your own party? For me?”

Rune nods. “We did.”

“Because you thought I might have been in the crowd?” Suddenly, I’m nervous. Rune, Cian, and Kylian are looking at me with an intensity that wasn’t there before, and I think I know what’s coming.

Rune keeps searching my face. “Why did you come to the hotel tonight, cher?”

I try to speak, but the words stick in my throat. A burn starts behind my eyelids. My stomach cramps and I twist my fingers together, more terrified now than I’ve been in my life.

Thisis when I find out if I have a future with Pack Ashe.

This is where we begin.

Or we end.

“I came to tell you I love you,” I whisper. “I came to tell you I want to be your omega. If you’ll have me.”

Chapter66

Everleigh

Rune is staring at me, and I’m not sure he’s even breathing. “Rune?”

“Shhh,” he hushes me, cradling my face between his large, warm hands. “Just need a second to absorb this feeling.”

I blink up at him, confused. “What feeling?”

“The best feeling there is in the world. Our omega choosing us,” he says.

“Omegas don’t choose their alpha,” I remind him. “Alphas do the choosing.”

Rune dips his head, his lips finding mine in a sweet, potent kiss that makes my toes curl. “Then I’d say it’s about time things changed, don’t you?”

I think of what happened to me. To my mom, to Resa, to other omegas in the city, being treated as things to own. To possess. Even the Omega Institute treats us the same way, using Haven Academy as a place to match omegas with the most influential families. I wonder how much say the omegas have about the alphas they want. Probably not a lot.

Rune is right. Maybe itistime things change.

“I do,” I say.

“Come here,” Kylian quietly orders, taking my hand and tugging me until I collide with his chest. He wraps his arms around me and gently squeezes, a smile lurking in his steel-gray eyes. “I’ve been having fantasies involving you, a certain car and a pair of gray socks.”

I laugh, wrapping my arms around him as I lean up for his kiss. “Youwere in the car, weren’t you?”

He cradles the back of my hair with one hand and smiles against my lips. “I told you I could have gotten to you sooner than you thought.”

He kisses me.

“But you said—”

“What I said,” Kylian interrupts, claiming another kiss, “was that I prioritize my time. I also said we had two teams looking out for you. One with experience, and another that—”

“Didn’t have a lot of experience but were very motivated,” I interrupt, recalling our late-night phone call days before. “You were talking about yourself.”

An arm loops around me from behind and draws me back against a familiar body. Kylian releases me and I turn to peer up at Cian, who brushes his lips across mine. “All of us. We took turns keeping watch. Winding down our business meant there were times we all had to be with our attorneys, signing contracts. Then we had Pack Lucas take over. I’ve missed you, little omega. And I think I might need a dance lesson refresh. I seem to have forgotten everything you taught me.”

“I missed you too.” We grin at each other, and then I remember what would happen during our dance lessons. “I seem to remember you did a lot of sniffing during those lessons. Are you still sure I smell terrible?”

His smile falls away. “You smell like the stuff of dreams, Everleigh, because youarethe stuff of dreams.”
