“Then he told us what he’d been sent to do to us and how he wasn’t going to do it,” Cian explains.

“But why?” I take a few more steps toward them, keeping my voice down so I don’t disturb Mom.

Kylian shrugs and gives me a half-smile. “I saw how they worked, and… I don’t know. I just knew I had a future with them.”

“We had a futuretogether,” Cian corrects him, nudging his shoulder. “And we learned we’re stronger together than we are apart.”

“I’m sure your bosses didn’t appreciate that,” I say.

“They didn’t… for the short time they were breathing,” Kylian admits.

I blink at him.

He shakes his head. “Those are not people you would ever want to leave alive at your back, Everleigh. They had to go.”

“And me?” I ask. “Where do I fit in with you?”

Because they’re going to have their hands full running the free heat clinics. I’ll want to spend time with Mom. Maybe I’ll even make my own call to the therapist because I have so many painful things in my head I’d like to get out so they don’t always feel so prickly sharp.

Maybe, and I’m still not sure about this, but maybe I’d like to go to art school one day.

“You’re our heart, cher,” Rune says softly, a warm smile in his eyes.

"Without you, we’re just three alphas stumbling through life,” Cian adds, smiling.

I shake my head. “Alphas don’t stumble. They are driven and determined, and they know exactly what they want out of life.”

“These ones stumble.” Kylian isn’t smiling. “And they fall. Or they did until you. You are our strength, Everleigh. And our heart. Always. Good night, beautiful.”

He smiles at me then. I return his smile, lifting my hand in a wave as they leave, softly closing the door behind them.

I stand there for several more seconds, absorbing how the night started off so terrible but ended up so perfect.

Smothering a yawn, I switch off all the lights, turn on the security alarm, and head upstairs to bed.

Mom is on the landing, just outside her room.

She meets my eye and smiles. “It sounds like the Cinderella moment worked out.”

I cross over to her, smiling. “It went a bit pear-shaped, but it worked out in the end. I want to shower and get ready for bed, but can I stay with you tonight?”

She wraps an arm around my shoulders and kisses my head. “I’d like that, Everleigh. I’d like that a lot.”

Epilogue

Everleigh

Two weeks Later

Kylian guides me across the dance floor. His hand is protective on my bare lower back and his breath hot on the side of my face.

I’m wearing a sexier dress than I would have ever worn before. Or that Lawrence would have let me.

Everleigh Jackson would have skipped right over the black halter-neck dress made of a silky fabric that skims her curves.

But Everleigh Ashe?

Everleigh Ashe wants to look beautiful for herselfandfor her three handsome alphas. She snatched that dress right up, tried it on, and immediately bought it, surprising the hell out of Della.
